72 points is an inch. The page grows. The content keeps its size.
How to Convert Add Margins to PDF Online
Add Margins to PDF grows every page by the margin you set, in points, so the existing content sits inside a band of white space. Use it before binding, before printing on a printer that clips the edges, or to leave room for handwritten notes.
Grows the page around the content, for binding or annotation room. The content is scaled down onto a larger canvas rather than being cropped, so nothing is lost — the usual need is a binding edge on a document about to be printed and bound.

What the Add Margins to PDF Converter Does
Understands PDF structure rather than treating the file as bytes
Names which measure it is using, because the two are routinely swapped
Additions are written into the existing page content rather than flattening it to an image
What you place stays sharp at any zoom, because it is drawn as vector rather than pasted as pixels

Tips and Good to Know
-
The page gets bigger rather than the content getting smaller; if the page size must stay A4, use Resize PDF instead, which scales the content down.
-
Margins are equal on all four sides; a binding-only (one-sided) margin is not offered here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
How big is a point?
1/72 of an inch, or about 0.35 mm. A half-inch margin is 36 pt; a comfortable binding margin is 50–60 pt.
Will my A4 page still be A4?
No — the page grows by the margin on each side, so A4 with 36 pt margins becomes about 235 × 322 mm. If the sheet size must stay fixed, use Resize PDF and scale the content instead.
Does the text stay selectable?
Yes. Nothing is rasterised; the page box is enlarged and the content is moved into the middle.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The change is made in your browser and the file is downloaded straight back.
Can I change words that are already in the PDF?
These tools add to the page: text, numbers, stamps, borders, headers or watermarks. Rewording what is already printed on a PDF is not their job, so for heavy rewriting, edit the original document if you still have it.
Does Add Margins to PDF leave a watermark of its own?
No. It is completely free, and the site adds no logo or mark of its own. The only marks on your pages are the ones you choose to put there.
Will Add Margins to PDF work on a scanned PDF?
Yes. Additions such as page numbers, stamps, borders and watermarks are placed on top of each page, so they work on scans just as they do on typed documents.
Can I undo a change after downloading?
The download is a new file, and your original is left exactly as it was. If you want a different result, open the original again and repeat the steps with new settings.
