How to Write a Cover Letter With AI for Free
A good cover letter says what you have done and why it fits the role. Type the job title and a few lines about your experience, choose the tone and length, and this generator drafts a letter from those facts rather than from stock phrases about passion.
In desktop Chrome or Edge with the on-device AI switched on, Chrome's built-in model writes it. Elsewhere, the page builds a structured letter from your details with bracketed placeholders, such as [role] and [your name], to fill in. Your CV details are never uploaded.

Steps to Draft a Cover Letter
-
1. Describe the role and yourself
In 'The role, and what you have done', write the job, the employer type and two or three things you have achieved. 'Use the example' shows the idea.
-
2. Set tone, length and reader
Formal suits banks and government jobs; Neutral suits most roles. Put the hiring manager or company in 'Written for'.
-
3. Press 'Run it'
The letter appears under Result. Press Regenerate for another version; the last three stay under Previous drafts.
-
4. Fill in and polish
Replace any placeholders in square brackets, check every claim is true, then Copy or Download the letter.
What Is an AI Cover Letter Generator?
It turns notes about a job and your background into a formatted cover letter. Here the writing is done by Chrome's Writer API when available, a small model running on your own computer, with instructions to describe what you did rather than how you feel. Without it, a rule-based version produces a subject line, an opening that names the role, your details as the body and a formal close.
Why Use AI Writing Tools on Your Device?
Rewriting an email, summarising notes or drafting a cover letter is quicker with a starting point. These tools use the AI built into supported browsers, so your text is handled on your own device rather than sent away.

Best Times to Draft with AI
AI helpers are useful when you are:

- Revising for an exam
- Applying for a new job
- Listing products in a shop
- Reading unfamiliar code
- Budgeting for an AI project
- Softening a blunt message
Tips for a Stronger Cover Letter
-
Give numbers in your notes: 'cut invoice errors by 30 percent' beats 'improved accuracy'.
-
Mention one thing about the employer, such as a product you used or a project they announced. Generic letters get skimmed.
-
Keep it to one page. Choose Short or Medium length unless the advert asks for a detailed statement.
-
Never send a draft unread. A small model can overstate a skill, and you will be asked about every line.
-
Save a version per job type. Editing a letter you already trust is faster than starting again each time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Can I use an AI-written cover letter for job applications?
Yes, as a first draft. Recruiters mostly object to letters that are vague or untrue, not to where the draft came from. Make sure every claim is accurate and the letter sounds like you before sending it.
Why are there words in square brackets in my letter?
That happens when the page's own code wrote the letter because the on-device model was not available. Brackets such as [role] and [your name] mark details to fill in before you send it.
Which browsers can use the AI model?
A desktop copy of Chrome or Edge from release 138 onwards, with the Writer API for Gemini Nano enabled and a machine that meets its memory and disk requirements. Phone browsers, Firefox and Safari use the rule-based version.
Are my CV details stored or shared?
No. Your notes live only in this page while it is open and vanish when it closes. Neither ToolXkit nor any AI company receives them.
How long should a cover letter be?
Three or four short paragraphs, usually 250 to 400 words, fits on one page. Short length suits online forms with a character limit, and Medium suits a letter attached to an email.
Why do some AI tools say my browser is not supported?
They use the AI model built into some recent browsers, such as newer versions of Chrome on a computer. If your browser does not have it, the page tells you plainly instead of sending your text elsewhere.
Is my text sent to an AI company?
No. When the built-in browser AI is used, your text is processed on your own device. Nothing is passed to ToolXkit or to an outside AI service along the way.
Should I check what AI Cover Letter Generator gives me?
Yes, always. AI text can sound confident and still be wrong, miss a detail or change your meaning. Treat it as a first draft, check facts and figures, and make it sound like you.
Is AI Cover Letter Generator free, or do I need an API key?
It is free, and there is no API key to enter or account to create. The on-device model belongs to your browser, so there are no per-use charges.
Can I use the result in my work?
Yes. What you create is yours to edit and use. For job applications, college work or published writing, follow the rules of the place you submit to about AI-written content.
