PNG to JPG Converter: before and after PNG A PNG FILE PNG TO JPG JPG A JPG FILE

PNG is excellent for screenshots and graphics, but it makes big files, and plenty of upload forms only take JPG. A job application, an exam form or a marketplace listing can refuse a PNG outright or complain that it is too large.

This converter redraws each PNG and saves it as a JPG at the quality you choose. Because JPG cannot store see-through areas, you also pick the colour that fills them, white by default. The width and height in pixels stay exactly the same.

You can convert one image or a whole folder’s worth in one go. Your browser handles all of it, so personal photos, ID scans and client artwork stay on your device.

Steps to Convert PNG Images to JPG

Add your pictures, adjust two settings if you like, and download.

  1. 1. Add one or more PNGs

Drag PNG files into the tool, or use Choose files to select several from your gallery or folders at once.

  2. 2. Set the quality

The Quality slider starts at 92 percent, which looks the same as the original to most eyes. Slide it down to make smaller files.

    A rough guide:

    • 90 to 100%: printing and portfolio images.
    • 75 to 85%: websites, email and social media.
    • 50 to 70%: forms with a strict size limit.
  3. 3. Pick a background colour

Choose what colour replaces transparent parts of the image. White suits most documents and forms; match a website’s colour for logos.

  4. 4. Press Convert to JPG

Each image is converted in turn. A panel then lists every file with its pixel size and its size before and after, plus how much smaller the set became.

  5. 5. Collect your JPGs

One picture is saved as a .jpg. When you convert more, they are bundled as images-jpg.zip, which any phone or computer can unpack.

What Is PNG to JPG Conversion?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, without loss, and can keep see-through areas. JPG, also written JPEG, is built for photographs: it drops fine detail the eye barely notices so the file shrinks a great deal, but it has no transparency.

Converting means drawing the PNG onto a solid background and encoding it as JPG at a quality you choose. For photos and screenshots with lots of colour, the JPG is usually far smaller than the PNG.

  • Emailing lots of screenshots
  • Listing products on a marketplace

  • Sending pictures to a print shop

Tips for Good JPG Results

  1. Start at 80 percent. It is often half the size of 92 percent and very hard to tell apart.

  2. Screenshots full of small text can look fuzzy at low quality. Keep those at 90 percent or above, or leave them as PNG.

  3. For a logo on a coloured web page, set the background to that page colour so no box shows around it.

  4. Need a smaller width and height too? Resize the JPG afterwards with the Resize Image tool.

  5. Aiming at a set kilobyte limit, such as 50 KB? The Compress Image tool can hit a target size for you.

  6. Keep the original PNG if you might edit the picture again. Each JPG save loses a little detail.

  7. Flat graphics with few colours may be larger as JPG. Check the before and after sizes shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How do I change a PNG into a JPG?

Add the PNG above, set the quality slider and the fill colour for see-through parts, then hit Convert to JPG. Your .jpg appears in downloads moments later, and a group of pictures is zipped together.

Will my picture look worse as a JPG?

A little, because JPG is a lossy format. At the default 92 percent the difference is very hard to see in photos. Sharp text and thin lines show the change first, so use a higher setting for screenshots.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

Transparency does not exist in JPG, so every see-through pixel takes on the colour chosen in the picker. It is white unless you change it, which avoids the black patches some converters leave.

Can I convert many PNG files at once?

Yes. Select as many as you need. They are converted one by one and downloaded together as images-jpg.zip. The practical limit is your device’s memory, not a number we set.

Will the image dimensions change?

No. The JPG has exactly the same width and height in pixels as the PNG. Only the format and the file size change. Use Resize Image if you also need different dimensions.

Why is my JPG bigger than the PNG?

Simple graphics with large flat areas and few colours are something PNG stores very efficiently. JPG is designed for photos, so for such images it can come out larger. Lower the quality or keep the PNG.

PNG or JPG: which format suits what?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which suits logos, icons and screenshots. JPG throws away detail you barely notice to make much smaller files, which suits photographs.

Which quality setting should I use?

For the web and email, 75 to 85 percent is a sensible range. For printing, stay at 90 or higher. If a form has a strict size limit, go lower, or use the Compress Image tool with a target size.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser opens, redraws and saves each picture itself. Photos, signatures and ID scans stay on the handset or computer, and closing the tab clears them from memory.

Can I convert PNG to JPG on my phone?

Yes. Using your handset’s browser, tap to select gallery images, convert, and the JPG or ZIP arrives in Downloads, ready to attach to a form or message.

Is there a watermark or fee?

Neither. The converter is free to use as often as you like, needs no account, and adds nothing to your pictures.

Does PNG to JPG reduce my photo’s quality?

Converting and cropping keep quality close to the original. Compressing trades a little detail for a much smaller file, and a lighter setting keeps more of it. Compare the preview with your original before saving.

Will my photo be accepted by the exam form?

The exam photo tools follow the size, dimensions and file weight given in the official notice. Always read the latest notice too, because boards sometimes change their rules between years.

Can I edit pictures with PNG to JPG straight from my gallery?

Yes. Pick a photo from your gallery or take one with the camera, then save the result back to your phone. Everything works in the browser, so there is no app to install.
