How to Save a JPG as PNG

JPG to PNG Converter: before and after JPG A JPG FILE JPG TO PNG PNG A PNG FILE

Every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it is compressed again and loses a little more detail. After a few rounds you see blocky patches and smudged edges. PNG does not do that: it stores pixels exactly, however many times you save.

This converter takes your JPG photos and writes each one out as a PNG with the same width and height. There are no settings to fiddle with, because PNG is lossless: the file simply keeps what is in the picture now.

Pick one photo or many. Several PNGs are bundled into a ZIP for you. The PNG files are written locally and never transferred to anyone.

Steps to Turn JPG Into PNG

Only three things to do, since PNG needs no quality setting.

  1. 1. Choose your JPG photos

Add .jpg or .jpeg files by dragging them in or with Choose files. Select several at once if you have a batch.

  2. 2. Press Convert to PNG

Each photo is redrawn and saved as PNG in turn. There is no quality slider because PNG keeps every pixel as it is.

  3. 3. Check the results panel

For each image you see its name, its width and height, and the size before and after. Expect the PNG to be larger; that is normal for photos.

  4. 4. Download the PNG or ZIP

One photo saves as a .png file. Two or more are collected into images-png.zip, which opens on any computer or phone.

  5. 5. Edit without further loss

Open the PNG in your editor and make changes. Saving it again, even many times, will not add new compression damage.

What Changes When a JPG Becomes a PNG?

JPG is a lossy format: to keep photos small it discards detail the eye rarely misses. PNG is lossless: it records each pixel exactly, which makes it ideal for editing, graphics, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or text.

Converting a JPG to PNG freezes the photo as it is right now. It cannot bring back detail the JPG already threw away, but it stops any further loss. The PNG will almost always be a bigger file.

Tips for Working With PNG

  1. PNG cannot bring back blur or blockiness already in the JPG. Start from the best copy you have.

  2. Expect a larger file, often two to five times bigger for photos. Convert back to JPG or WebP when you are done editing.

  3. Converting alone does not make the background transparent. Use the Remove Background tool on the PNG for that.

  4. Sending lots of PNG photos by email? Zip them, or use JPG for the final copies.

  5. To change width and height, resize the image as a separate step. This converter keeps the size as it is.

  6. Keep the original JPG too. It is smaller and holds the same picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How do I convert a JPG to PNG?

Add your JPG photos above and press Convert to PNG. One photo saves as a .png file; several come together in a ZIP. There are no settings to choose.

Will PNG make a blurry JPG sharper?

No. PNG keeps the picture exactly as it is now, but it cannot recover detail the JPG already discarded. What it does is stop any further loss when you edit and save again.

Is anything lost when I switch to PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the conversion keeps every pixel of the JPG. The PNG will look identical to the photo you started with.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

JPG is built to squeeze photos small by discarding detail. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which takes far more space for a photograph. Two to five times larger is common.

Will the background become transparent?

No. JPG files cannot hold see-through areas, which means the PNG keeps the same solid background. To make it see-through, run the PNG through a background remover afterwards.

Can I convert several JPGs to PNG at once?

Yes. Select them all together. After conversion they download as one ZIP called images-png.zip. How many you can do at once depends on your device’s memory.

Are the width and height kept?

Yes. Each PNG has exactly the same pixel dimensions as its JPG. Only the format changes, and with it the file size.

What happens to the photo’s EXIF data?

It is not copied. The PNG is drawn fresh from the picture, so details such as the camera model, date taken and GPS location stay behind in the original JPG.

Will this work on my iPhone or Android?

Yes. It runs in Safari, Chrome and other mobile browsers. Choose photos from your gallery; the finished PNG or ZIP goes to Downloads or the Files app.

Is it safe for personal photos?

Yes. Conversion takes place inside your browser, and your photos are never transmitted or stored anywhere else. Closing the page clears them.

Is JPG to PNG conversion free here?

Completely. You will not meet an account screen, a trial period or a daily allowance, and the PNG files carry no watermark or branding of ours.

Does JPG to PNG reduce my photo’s quality?

Converting and cropping keep quality close to the original. Compressing trades a little detail for a much smaller file, and a lighter setting keeps more of it. Compare the preview with your original before saving.

Will my photo be accepted by the exam form?

The exam photo tools follow the size, dimensions and file weight given in the official notice. Always read the latest notice too, because boards sometimes change their rules between years.

Can I edit pictures with JPG to PNG straight from my gallery?

Yes. Pick a photo from your gallery or take one with the camera, then save the result back to your phone. Everything works in the browser, so there is no app to install.
