Work your way

Four things every other online converter gets wrong, and what happens here instead.

How your documents are processed

Every step happens inside this page. Here is exactly what happens, and what doesn't.

The tools are built on two standard browser features: WebAssembly, which runs fast code on your device, and Web Workers, which keep the page responsive while it works.

  1. 1

    Choose your file

Pick a document from your device. PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG, WebP, CSV and JSON are all supported. The file is read into your browser’s memory. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

    It is processed here

The conversion runs inside this page, on your own CPU, using WebAssembly and Web Workers. Once the page has loaded, you don’t even need an internet connection.

  3. 3

    Download the result

The finished file is generated locally and handed straight to your browser’s downloads. Close the tab and the working memory is released. Nothing is left on any server, because nothing was ever sent to one.

The technical architecture, in detail

Processing technology

  • WebAssembly for document parsing, rendering and OCR
  • The File API to read from disk and object URLs to write back
  • Canvas and Web Workers for page rendering and image work
  • Web Audio for decoding and editing sound
  • WebCodecs for hardware-accelerated video, the same path video calls use
  • Tesseract.js for on-device optical character recognition
  • The browser’s own AI model for summarising and translating

Security and privacy

  • No file is transmitted. There is no upload endpoint to send one to
  • Memory holding your document is released when you leave the page
  • The site itself is served over HTTPS
  • A Content Security Policy restricts what code can run
  • No account, no email address, no personal data collected

Turn off your internet. It still works.

  • Every conversion runs on your own CPU, inside this tab
  • There is no upload endpoint at all, private or public
  • Close the tab and the working memory goes with it

Who uses these tools?

Anyone who needs to get something done with a document without handing it to a stranger first.

  • For students

Merge lecture notes, convert assignments between formats, pull text out of textbook scans, compress a thesis to fit a submission limit, and organise research materials. All free.

  • For professionals

Prepare client-ready documents, combine reports into a single file, convert presentations for distribution, and handle contracts without putting confidential information on a third party’s server.

  • For businesses

Streamline document workflows, read invoices and receipts with OCR, prepare compliance paperwork, and meet a security policy that forbids uploading client files anywhere.

  • For everyone else

Sign and merge a PDF, turn a photo into text, or shrink a file to get it past an email attachment limit. No account, no learning curve, nothing to install.

Who makes this

I'm a developer, and I built ToolXkit because every "free" tool site I tried had a catch: a signup, a watermark, a daily limit, or a request to upload my private files to their server. So I made the site I wanted to use. It's free for everyone, and your files never leave your device.

There's no big team behind it. ToolXkit is built and run by one person, at WebWonder Wizard in Madurai, India. If something breaks, the person who reads your message is the one who fixes it.

Frequently asked questions

Is ToolXkit really free?

Yes. Every tool is free, with no hidden costs, no premium tier and no usage limits. There are no file size restrictions, no daily caps, and nothing locked behind a paywall. The site is paid for by ads. Because nothing is processed on a server, the cost barely changes whether one person uses it or a million do, and that’s why it can stay free.

Are my documents safe? Do you store my files?

Your documents never leave your device, so there is nothing for us to store. All processing happens in your browser. There are no servers that receive, process or hold your files, and no upload endpoint at all. You can verify this yourself: open any tool, disconnect from the internet, and it still works.

What file formats are supported?

Documents: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, XLS, PPTX, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, HTML, TXT and Markdown. Images: JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, HEIC, BMP and GIF. Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC. Video: MP4, WebM and MOV. Which formats a given tool accepts is listed on its own page. The one common format a browser can’t open is the old Word .doc from before 2007; save it as .docx in Word or LibreOffice first.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no email address and no password anywhere on this site. Open a tool page and start using it.

Can I use these tools on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Everything works on phones, tablets, laptops and desktops, and is built for touch as well as mouse. Processing speed depends on your device, but modern phones handle typical documents without trouble. Very large files are limited by your device’s memory rather than by us.

What happens if I close the tab while something is processing?

Processing stops and the working memory is cleared. You would need to start that conversion again. Keep the tab open until your download begins. For large files, most browsers also warn you before you close a tab that is still busy.

Why does this matter for work documents?

Many employers forbid uploading client documents to outside websites: law firms, accountants, hospitals, HR teams, and anyone bound by GDPR or HIPAA. Because these tools never transmit your file, they can be used where an upload-based converter cannot.

What does the ≈ symbol on some tools mean?

It marks conversions where a browser can’t perfectly reproduce the original layout, mainly PDF to Word, Word to PDF, PowerPoint and complex spreadsheet exports. Those tools work well, but the result is close rather than identical. We would rather label it than let you find out afterwards.
