How to Check Keyword Density in Your Text

Keyword Density Checker: before and after TEXT A YOUR INPUT KEYWORDDENSITYCHECKER DONE A RESULT

When you have been writing about one topic for an hour, it is easy to use the same word twenty times without noticing. A keyword density check shows which words and phrases dominate your copy, so you can spot the ones you have leaned on too hard or barely used at all.

Paste plain text or the HTML source of a page. Tags, scripts and styles are stripped before counting, so only the words a reader sees are measured. Single words, two-word phrases and three-word phrases each get their own list with a count and a percentage.

Steps to Count Your Keywords

  1. 1. Clear the example text

The box starts with a short sample about coffee. Delete it and paste your article, product description or page source.

  2. 2. Read the three totals

Words, Distinct terms and Repeated phrases appear at the top and update as you type or edit.

  3. 3. Scan the phrase lists

Look at the top fifteen single words, then the two-word and three-word phrases that appear more than once.

  4. 4. Edit and check again

Swap an overused word for a synonym or a pronoun in your text, paste it back, and watch its share drop.

What Is Keyword Density?

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears compared with the total number of words, shown as a percentage. This checker leaves out words shorter than three letters and common English words such as 'the', 'and' and 'with', then works the percentage out from the words that remain.

Because those small words are removed first, the percentages here run higher than on tools that count every word. Compare terms against each other rather than against a figure from another site.

Why Use SEO Tools Before Publishing?

Search engines read titles, descriptions, headings and structured data before they ever show a page to anyone. Checking and generating these from your own markup catches problems before a page goes live.

“Small fixes in the page head decide how you look in search.”
  • Titles that fit the results page
  • Schema markup without hand-coding
  • Share previews that look right
  • Campaign links tracked with UTM
  • Descriptions within length
  • Robots and sitemaps checked
  • Keywords counted, not guessed
  • Headings in a logical order

Popular Uses for Search Optimization Tools

Site owners use these while writing, launching and fixing pages.

  • Search snippet preview See how a title and description will look in Google before publishing.
  • Rich results Generate FAQ, product or recipe schema in JSON-LD for a page.
  • Robots.txt rules Write and test robots.txt so crawlers skip only the pages you intend.
  • XML sitemaps Build or validate an XML sitemap listing the pages you want found.
  • Social sharing Make Open Graph and Twitter Card tags so links show a proper preview.
  • Keyword checks Count how often a keyword appears so a page does not overuse it.
  • Campaign tracking Add UTM tags to links in emails and ads to see what brings visitors.
  • Heading structure Check that a page has one H1 and a sensible order of subheadings.

What the Density Checker Measures

Works on HTML too

Paste a whole page source and the markup, script and style blocks are removed before a single word is counted.

Phrases, not just words

Two-word and three-word phrases show the terms a searcher would actually type, such as 'cold brew coffee'.

Filler words removed

Common words are skipped, so the lists show the terms that give your page its topic rather than 'this' and 'with'.

Honest guidance

The page says plainly that there is no target percentage to hit, and why chasing one does more harm than good.

Best Times to Check Your Page for SEO

Tips for Natural Keyword Use

  1. Write for the reader first. If a sentence sounds odd when read aloud because of a keyword, rewrite it.

  2. Look for your main topic in the two-word list. If it is missing, you may be describing it in too many different ways.

  3. Put the main phrase where it counts: the title, the first paragraph and one subheading. Repeating it elsewhere adds little.

  4. Only English letters and numbers are counted. Text in Hindi, Tamil or accented languages will not show up in the lists.

  5. Compare your page with a competitor's by pasting both in turn. Phrases they use that you never mention are worth a look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

What is the ideal keyword density for SEO?

There is no ideal figure. Google does not rank pages by counting repetitions, and forcing a word in to hit a percentage reads as keyword stuffing. Use the numbers to catch overuse and gaps, not as a score to reach.

Can I check a live web page by its URL?

Not on this page. Open the page in your browser, right-click and choose View Page Source, then copy everything and paste it into the box. The HTML is cleaned up before counting.

Why is the Words total lower than in Microsoft Word?

This checker ignores words under three letters and a list of common English words before totalling. Word counts every word, so its figure is always higher. For a plain total, use a word counter instead.

Why are two-word phrases missing from the results?

A phrase is only listed when it appears at least twice. In a short text most pairs of words occur once, so the list stays empty until there is enough repetition to report.

Is the text I paste saved or sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser as you type, and the text disappears when you close the tab. Unpublished drafts and client copy stay on your device.

Will these tools guarantee better rankings?

No tool can promise that. These checks fix technical problems that hold a page back, such as missing titles or broken schema. Rankings still depend mostly on useful content and links from other sites.

Is Keyword Density Checker free with no limits?

Yes. Run as many checks as you want, without an account or a paid plan. There is no premium version of this tool held back behind an upgrade.

How long should a title and meta description be?

Aim for a title of about 50 to 60 characters and a description of about 150 to 160, so neither is cut off. Google measures in pixels, so the snippet preview is the surest guide.

Does Google use my structured data?

Valid schema makes a page eligible for rich results such as FAQs, recipes or product stars, but Google decides when to show them. Test the markup, then give it time to be crawled.

Does Keyword Density Checker keep a copy of my pages or keywords?

No. The checks run in your browser, and nothing you paste is saved or shared. Unpublished pages and keyword plans stay private until you are ready.
