How to Create Open Graph Tags for Link Previews
When someone shares your link on WhatsApp, Facebook or LinkedIn, the app builds a little card with a picture, a title and a line of text. Open Graph tags decide what goes on that card. Without them, the app guesses, and it often picks the wrong image or cuts the title in an odd place.
Fill in the title, description, page address, image address and site name. The generator shows a live preview of the share card and of a Google result, warns you when something is too long or not a full URL, and writes the og: meta tags to paste into your page.

Steps to Set Up Share Previews
-
1. Write the title
Type the title people should see on the card. The counter turns amber past 60 characters, where search results start cutting it off.
-
2. Add a description
One sentence that makes someone want to tap. Aim for roughly 120 to 155 characters, which the bar under the box helps you judge.
-
3. Give the image address
Enter the full https:// link to your share image, ideally 1200 by 630 pixels. The card preview loads it so you can check the crop.
-
4. Copy the tags
Add the page URL and site name, then copy the block of og: tags and paste it inside the head of your page.
What Are Open Graph Tags?
Open Graph is a set of meta tags first created by Facebook and now read by almost every app that shows link previews, including WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Slack, Telegram and Discord. Each tag has a property such as og:title or og:image and a content value.
The tags live in the head of the page and are invisible to visitors. Apps fetch them when a link is shared and build the preview card from what they find.
Why Use SEO Tools Before Publishing?
Search engines read titles, descriptions, headings and structured data before they ever show a page to anyone. Checking and generating these from your own markup catches problems before a page goes live.
“Small fixes in the page head decide how you look in search.”
- Titles that fit the results page
- Schema markup without hand-coding
- Share previews that look right
- Campaign links tracked with UTM
- Descriptions within length
- Robots and sitemaps checked
- Keywords counted, not guessed
- Headings in a logical order
Popular Uses for Search Optimization Tools
Site owners use these while writing, launching and fixing pages.
- Search snippet preview See how a title and description will look in Google before publishing.
- Rich results Generate FAQ, product or recipe schema in JSON-LD for a page.
- Robots.txt rules Write and test robots.txt so crawlers skip only the pages you intend.
- XML sitemaps Build or validate an XML sitemap listing the pages you want found.
- Social sharing Make Open Graph and Twitter Card tags so links show a proper preview.
- Keyword checks Count how often a keyword appears so a page does not overuse it.
- Campaign tracking Add UTM tags to links in emails and ads to see what brings visitors.
- Heading structure Check that a page has one H1 and a sensible order of subheadings.
Built Into the OG Tag Generator
Two live previews
See a mock Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp card beside a Google search result, both redrawn as you type.
Length meters
Character counters and coloured bars show when a title or description will be trimmed on screen.
Plain warnings
The page warns you about a title that is too short, a description that runs long, or an image or page URL that is not absolute.
Only the og: tags
The output holds just the Open Graph lines, so it will not clash with a title or description tag your site already sets.

Tips for Better Link Previews
-
Use an image at 1200 by 630 pixels and keep important text away from the edges. Some apps crop it to a square.
-
Always give full addresses starting with https://. Apps fetching your tags cannot work out a relative path such as /img/card.png.
-
The output sets og:type to website and og:locale to en_US. Edit those two lines after copying if the page is an article or in another language.
-
WhatsApp and Facebook cache previews. After changing tags, run the link through Facebook's Sharing Debugger to refresh the old card.
-
Write a title for people scrolling a chat, not for search engines. Short and specific wins the tap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Why does WhatsApp show the wrong image for my link?
Either the page has no og:image tag, the image URL is not a full https address, or WhatsApp is still showing a cached card. Add the tag with an absolute link, keep the image reasonably small, and share the link again after a while.
What size should an Open Graph image be?
1200 by 630 pixels is the size that crops well almost everywhere. Keep the key content in the middle, since some apps show a square thumbnail, and use JPG or PNG for the widest support.
Do I also need Twitter card tags?
X falls back to Open Graph tags when its own are missing, so these usually work there too. If you want the large image layout on X specifically, use the Twitter Card generator for the extra lines.
Where exactly do the tags go?
Inside the head section of the page's HTML, anywhere between the opening and closing head tags. On WordPress, an SEO plugin usually has fields for these; on a hand-built site, paste them directly.
Is my page information stored anywhere?
No. The tags and previews are built in your browser. The image preview loads your image from its own address, but nothing you type is sent to ToolXkit.
Will these tools guarantee better rankings?
No tool can promise that. These checks fix technical problems that hold a page back, such as missing titles or broken schema. Rankings still depend mostly on useful content and links from other sites.
Is Open Graph Generator free with no limits?
Yes. Run as many checks as you want, without an account or a paid plan. There is no premium version of this tool held back behind an upgrade.
How long should a title and meta description be?
Aim for a title of about 50 to 60 characters and a description of about 150 to 160, so neither is cut off. Google measures in pixels, so the snippet preview is the surest guide.
Does Google use my structured data?
Valid schema makes a page eligible for rich results such as FAQs, recipes or product stars, but Google decides when to show them. Test the markup, then give it time to be crawled.
Does Open Graph Generator keep a copy of my pages or keywords?
No. The checks run in your browser, and nothing you paste is saved or shared. Unpublished pages and keyword plans stay private until you are ready.
