How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Any Device

HEIC to JPG Converter: before and after HEIC A HEIC FILE HEIC TO JPG JPG A JPG FILE

Since 2017, iPhones and iPads have saved photos as HEIC by default. The pictures look lovely and take up less space, but the moment you copy them to a Windows laptop, attach them to a college application or send them to a print shop, someone says the file will not open. JPG is the answer almost everywhere.

This converter reads your HEIC or HEIF photos and saves each one as a JPG. Pick a quality between 50 and 100 percent, press the button, and a single photo downloads on its own while a bigger batch is bundled into a ZIP. A short line then tells you how many pictures were made and how the total size changed.

Chrome and Firefox cannot open HEIC by themselves, so the page loads a small HEIC reader into your browser the first time you convert. After that the work happens on your phone or computer. Family photos, ID pictures and passport scans are never sent to anyone.

Steps to Change HEIC Photos to JPG

From iPhone photo to a JPG you can send anywhere, in five short steps.

  1. 1. Add your HEIC photos

Drop the photos on the box marked "HEIC or HEIF photos", or press Choose files and pick them. There is no cap on the count, and further photos can join the list later.

    Good to know:

    • Both .heic and .heif files are accepted.
    • Use the arrow buttons or Sort A–Z to change the order.
    • The cross beside a photo removes it from the list.
  2. 2. Keep JPG selected

Under Options, "Convert to" is already set to the JPG button. That is the right choice for forms, email, chat and printing. The other option, PNG, is for editing work where every pixel must stay exact.

  3. 3. Set the quality

The Quality slider starts at 90 percent, and at that setting hardly anyone can tell the copy from the HEIC. Slide it down towards 70 for smaller files, or up to 100 when you plan to print large.

  4. 4. Press Convert to JPG

The button shows its progress while it works, first loading the HEIC reader and then counting through your photos one by one. A batch of phone photos usually takes a few seconds.

  5. 5. Save the JPG files

One photo is saved straight away with the same name and a .jpg ending. Two or more come as converted-photos.zip, which you open by tapping it on a phone or double-clicking it on a computer.

What Is a HEIC File?

HEIC is the name Apple uses for photos stored in the High Efficiency Image File Format, or HEIF. It squeezes a picture into roughly half the space a JPG would need at similar quality, which is why an iPhone full of photos lasts longer before the storage warning appears.

The catch is support. Apple devices open HEIC without fuss, but many Windows computers, older Android phones, government portals and websites do not. JPG, by contrast, has been the everyday photo format since the early 1990s and opens on practically every screen and printer in the world.

The photo format every phone, computer, website and printer understands.

Where a JPG copy helps

  • Job and college application forms
  • Government and exam portals
  • Opening photos on a Windows PC
  • Email attachments that open for everyone
  • Photo shops and home printers
  • Sharing with Android friends
  • Product photos for an online shop

Why Convert iPhone Photos to JPG?

HEIC saves space on the phone, but a photo is only useful if the other person can open it. Turning it into JPG removes that doubt, whether the photo goes to a friend, an employer or a printing counter.

“A photo nobody can open is not much use, however small the file.”
  • Opens on every phone and PC
  • Ready for photo labs and printers
  • A whole album in one go
  • Private pictures stay on your device
  • Accepted by official upload forms
  • Quality you choose yourself
  • Many photos packed in one ZIP
  • No app or account needed

Popular Reasons to Use HEIC to JPG

These are the moments people usually search for an iPhone photo converter.

  • College admissions Admission portals ask for a JPG photo and signature. Convert the iPhone picture first, then resize it if the form sets a limit.
  • Exam registration Recruitment and exam sites often reject anything that is not JPG. A converted copy uploads first time.
  • Photos on Windows Copy the album off your iPhone, convert it here, and the Photos app on any Windows PC opens every picture.
  • Printing at a shop Hand the studio a pen drive full of JPGs rather than files their machine cannot read.
  • Selling online Marketplaces and shop builders take JPG product photos without complaint.
  • Sharing with family Relatives on Android or an old laptop can finally see the wedding or holiday photos.
  • Job applications A profile photo for a job portal or a CV needs to open on the recruiter’s computer, not just yours.
  • Editing in older software Older photo editors and office programs refuse HEIC but open a JPG straight away.

HEIC Converter Features

Everything the converter offers, and nothing it does not.

Batch

Convert many photos at once

Add a single picture or a whole folder’s worth. Each photo becomes its own JPG, and a batch downloads as one ZIP.

Tips for Better HEIC to JPG Results

  1. Leave the quality at 90 unless a form sets a size limit. You will rarely see a difference, and the file stays reasonable.

  2. If a portal demands a tiny file, say 20 to 100 KB, convert here first, then use an image compressor to reach the exact size.

  3. On the iPhone, Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then Most Compatible makes the camera shoot JPG from now on.

  4. Convert a large album in groups of fifty or so on an older phone. Smaller batches are easier on memory.

  5. Keep the original HEIC files. JPG loses a little detail each time it is saved, so always convert from the original.

  6. Choose PNG instead if you are going to edit the picture heavily or need a transparent background.

  7. Open one of the new JPGs before deleting anything, just to be sure the batch worked as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Add your HEIC photos to this page, keep the JPG button selected, set the quality if you want, and press Convert to JPG. A lone picture saves as a .jpg; a group is packed into a ZIP. There is no charge and no signup.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone?

Yes. Open this page in Safari or Chrome on the iPhone, tap Choose files, pick the photos from your library and convert. The JPGs are saved to the Files app, from where you can share or upload them.

Why can’t Windows open my iPhone photos?

Windows needs an extra HEIF extension from the Microsoft Store to show HEIC files, and many PCs do not have it. Converting to JPG avoids the problem completely, since Windows has opened JPG for decades.

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG compresses a little differently, but at the default 90 percent almost nobody can see a difference. At 100 percent the copy is as close as JPG can get. Lower settings save space by dropping fine detail.

The converted JPG takes more space than the HEIC. Is that normal?

HEIC is a more efficient format, so the same picture takes more space as JPG. That is normal. If size matters, lower the quality slider to 75 or 80 and the files will shrink noticeably.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Select the whole lot together. Every photo is processed in turn, and the finished set lands in a single file called converted-photos.zip.

Could ToolXkit see the photos I convert?

No. The pictures are decoded and saved as JPG inside your own browser. Only the HEIC reader itself is downloaded to your device the first time, and none of your pictures leave it.

What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF is the name of the file format. HEIC is the version Apple uses, holding pictures compressed with the HEVC method. For everyday purposes they are the same kind of file, and this page accepts both endings.

Does the JPG keep the photo’s location and camera details?

No. The JPG is created fresh from the pixels, so details stored alongside the original, such as GPS location and camera settings, are not copied. That is often welcome when posting photos publicly.

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay as HEIC, so convert those here.

How many HEIC photos can I convert in one batch?

There is no fixed limit. Because everything runs on your device, the practical ceiling depends on its memory. A computer handles very large batches comfortably; an older phone may prefer smaller groups.

What if a file will not convert?

You will see a message naming the file. Usually it is not really a HEIC photo, for example a renamed video or a damaged download. Remove it from the list and convert the rest.

Does HEIC to JPG reduce my photo’s quality?

Converting and cropping keep quality close to the original. Compressing trades a little detail for a much smaller file, and a lighter setting keeps more of it. Compare the preview with your original before saving.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Pictures are opened and changed inside your browser, and the result is saved to your device. Family photos, ID scans and signatures are never sent anywhere.
