How to Turn HEIC into PNG Online
An iPhone stores its pictures as HEIC, a compact format that plenty of editing programs, website builders and Windows machines still cannot read. When a photo is heading into Photoshop, Canva, a slide deck or a design project, PNG is often the better destination because it keeps every pixel exactly as decoded.
Drop your HEIC or HEIF files onto this page, switch the "Convert to" option to the PNG button, and press Convert to PNG. A single image saves by itself; a group comes back in one ZIP. There is no quality slider for PNG because nothing is thrown away.
The HEIC reader loads into your browser when you first convert, then everything runs locally. Your pictures are read, turned into PNG and saved without ever leaving the device you are holding.

Guide to Convert HEIC Photos to PNG
Remember to switch the output to PNG in step two; the converter starts on JPG.
-
1. Choose the HEIC pictures
Press Choose files or drag photos onto the drop area. Add one or a whole set. Each file appears in a list where you can move it up or down, sort by name or remove it.
-
2. Switch the format to PNG
In the Options panel, press the PNG button next to "Convert to". The main button changes to Convert to PNG, and the quality slider disappears because PNG does not need one.
Which should I pick?:
- PNG: editing, design, transparent images, archives.
- JPG: forms, email, chat and printing, where smaller files help.
-
3. Start the conversion
Press Convert to PNG. The button reports each step, from loading the reader to converting photo two of ten, so you can see it is still working on a large batch.
-
4. Collect your PNG files
A lone photo saves with its original name and a .png ending. Several photos arrive as converted-photos.zip. Unzip it to reach the individual pictures.
-
5. Open them in your editor
The PNG files open in Photoshop, GIMP, Paint, Canva, Figma, PowerPoint and almost any other program, on Windows, Mac, Android or Linux.
What Does HEIC to PNG Do?
HEIC photos are compressed with a video-style method that makes them small but awkward to open outside Apple’s world. Converting to PNG decodes that picture once and stores the result in Portable Network Graphics format, which uses lossless compression.
Lossless means the PNG holds exactly the pixels that came out of the HEIC, and it will keep holding them no matter how many times you open and save it. The trade-off is size: a PNG photo is usually several times larger than the HEIC it came from.
PNG image
.PNGA pixel-perfect picture that never loses detail when saved again, with room for transparency.
Good uses for a PNG copy
- Retouching in a photo editor
- Design mock-ups and posters
- Slides that need crisp images
- Cutting out a subject later
- Long-term archive copies
- Website and app artwork
- Screens and graphics with text
Why Choose PNG for HEIC Photos?
JPG is fine for sharing, but it loses a little detail every time the picture is saved again. If you plan to crop, retouch, add text or layer the photo, a PNG gives you a clean starting point that never gets worse.
“Edit from a lossless copy, share from a compressed one.”
- Every decoded pixel kept
- Room for transparent areas
- Sharp edges around text and lines
- Ready for design tools
- Safe to edit and resave
- Opens in nearly every program
- A dependable archive format
- Converted without any upload

Tips for HEIC to PNG Conversion
-
Always check that the PNG button is selected before you press the button. The converter opens with JPG chosen.
-
Expect big files. A 2 MB HEIC photo can easily become a PNG several times that size. Make sure there is room on your device.
-
For email or upload forms with size limits, convert a second copy to JPG instead.
-
On an older phone, convert large sets in smaller groups so the browser tab stays responsive.
-
Keep the original HEIC photos too. They are the smallest complete copy you have.
-
Open a PNG in your editor before converting a whole album, to confirm it looks right.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
What are the steps to save a HEIC photo as PNG?
Add your HEIC photos, choose the PNG button under Convert to, and press Convert to PNG. A single photo downloads directly, and several download as one ZIP. It all happens in your browser.
Should I save my iPhone pictures as PNG or JPG?
It depends on the job. PNG never loses detail when saved again, so it suits editing and archiving. JPG makes far smaller files, which suits sharing, email and upload forms. Many people keep one of each.
My PNG file is huge compared with the HEIC. Why?
HEIC and JPG discard tiny details to save space, while PNG records every pixel exactly. For photographs that makes PNG files large, often several times the size of the HEIC. This is expected and not a fault.
Does converting to PNG improve the photo?
No. PNG keeps what the HEIC contained without further loss, but it cannot restore detail the camera’s compression already removed. The picture looks the same; it simply stops getting worse on later saves.
Will a transparent background be kept?
Yes, if the HEIC has one. PNG supports transparency, and the converter does not fill see-through areas. Normal camera photos have no transparent parts, so for them this makes no difference.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG on Windows?
Yes. Load this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a Windows PC and add the files. The converter includes its own HEIC reader, so you do not need the Microsoft HEIF extension.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG on an iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. The page works in mobile browsers. Pick photos from your library or files, convert, and save the PNG images or ZIP to your phone’s storage.
Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. Decoding the HEIC and writing the PNG both happen locally, in this page. The only download is the converter code itself, which your browser fetches the first time you use it.
How many HEIC files can I convert at once?
There is no set number. Available memory decides it, so a desktop can handle large batches while an older phone may do better with twenty or thirty at a time.
Why did I get a JPG instead of a PNG?
The converter starts with JPG selected. Choose the PNG button in the Options panel before pressing the button. The button label should read Convert to PNG.
Does the PNG keep my photo’s location data?
No. The new file is built from the image alone, so GPS location, camera model and similar hidden details from the original are left out.
Does HEIC to PNG reduce my photo’s quality?
Converting and cropping keep quality close to the original. Compressing trades a little detail for a much smaller file, and a lighter setting keeps more of it. Compare the preview with your original before saving.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Pictures are opened and changed inside your browser, and the result is saved to your device. Family photos, ID scans and signatures are never sent anywhere.
Will my photo be accepted by the exam form?
The exam photo tools follow the size, dimensions and file weight given in the official notice. Always read the latest notice too, because boards sometimes change their rules between years.
