Turn a WebP Download into a PNG File
You right-click a picture on a website, save it, and find a .webp file that your photo viewer, Word or an older version of Photoshop refuses to open. WebP is Google’s web image format. Browsers love it, but plenty of desktop software still does not.
This converter opens each WebP in your browser and saves it again as PNG. Add one file or many, press Convert to PNG, and the page lists every new image with its dimensions and its file size before and after. A single file saves directly; several come in a ZIP called images-png.zip.
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so logos, stickers and cut-out product shots keep their clear backgrounds. Because the conversion happens on your device, there is no upload, no queue and no account to create.

Steps to Save WebP as PNG
The whole job takes about as long as choosing the files.
-
1. Add the WebP images
Drop .webp files on the box or tap Choose files. Each chosen picture joins a list showing its size, with a small preview beside it.
-
2. Check the file list
Remove anything you added by mistake with the cross. The arrow buttons and Sort A–Z change the order, which only matters for how the ZIP is filled.
-
3. Press Convert to PNG
There are no options for PNG, since it keeps everything. The button converts every file in the list in one pass.
-
4. Look over the results
A card shows how many images are ready and lists each file with its width, height and old and new size. Bigger numbers on the PNG side are expected, not an error.
-
5. Open or share the PNGs
Find the PNG or the images-png.zip file in your downloads. Unzip a batch, then open the pictures in any viewer, editor or document.
What Is a WebP Image?
WebP is an image format Google introduced in 2010 to make web pages load faster. It can be lossy like JPG or lossless like PNG, it supports transparency, and it usually makes files noticeably smaller. That is why so many websites now serve their pictures as WebP.
The downside appears after you download one. Some photo viewers, office suites, printing services and older editing programs do not recognise it. PNG, on the other hand, has been supported everywhere for decades. Converting keeps the picture exactly as decoded while switching to the format everyone can read.

Tips for WebP to PNG Files
-
If the PNG is too big to email and you do not need transparency, convert with WebP to JPG instead for a much smaller file.
-
An animated WebP turns into a still PNG of its first frame.
-
PNG cannot repair a blurry or blocky WebP. What you see in the WebP is exactly what you get.
-
To check transparency, place the PNG on a coloured slide or open it in an editor with a chequered background.
-
Keep the original WebP if storage is tight; it is the smaller of the two.
-
Converting many files? Use Sort A–Z first so the ZIP contents are in a sensible order.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
How can I convert WebP to PNG for free?
Choose your .webp pictures, then tap the Convert to PNG button; no settings are involved. A single picture comes back as a PNG, while a group is zipped into images-png.zip. It is free with no account.
Why does my computer not open WebP files?
WebP is newer than JPG and PNG, and some photo viewers, office programs and older editors never added support. Converting to PNG gives you a file those programs open normally.
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas in the WebP remain transparent in the PNG, meaning a downloaded brand mark keeps its crisp outline with no box around it.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
WebP is designed to be very compact, and lossy WebP discards detail to save space. PNG records every pixel exactly, which takes more room. A bigger PNG is expected.
Does converting WebP to PNG lose quality?
No further quality is lost. PNG stores the decoded picture exactly. If the WebP was already compressed heavily, those marks remain, because conversion cannot recreate lost detail.
Can I convert an animated WebP?
You will get a still PNG showing the first frame. PNG is treated as a still image by nearly all software, so the animation is not kept.
Can I convert many WebP files at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many as you like. Every file is converted with one press, and the batch downloads together as a ZIP.
Could anyone else see the pictures I convert?
No. Your browser does the decoding and encoding locally, so the images never reach ToolXkit or anyone else. That makes it suitable for private or work images.
Which target suits my WebP better, PNG or JPG?
Pick PNG for logos, graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency or text. Pick JPG for photographs when you want a small file and do not need a see-through background.
Does it work on Android and iPhone?
Yes. Mobile Chrome, Samsung Internet and Safari all run it. Pick the WebP files from storage or your gallery, then convert. The results are saved to your downloads.
How big a WebP file can I convert?
There is no set maximum. A gigantic image just needs a phone or computer with plenty of free RAM, since the decoding happens there.
Does WebP to PNG reduce my photo’s quality?
Converting and cropping keep quality close to the original. Compressing trades a little detail for a much smaller file, and a lighter setting keeps more of it. Compare the preview with your original before saving.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Pictures are opened and changed inside your browser, and the result is saved to your device. Family photos, ID scans and signatures are never sent anywhere.
Will my photo be accepted by the exam form?
The exam photo tools follow the size, dimensions and file weight given in the official notice. Always read the latest notice too, because boards sometimes change their rules between years.
