Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

Why is my bank’s EMI different from this figure?

The formula is standard, so the monthly instalment on the same principal, rate and tenure matches. Banks then add processing fees, insurance sold alongside the loan, and sometimes a different day-count convention. Compare the EMI here against the bank’s EMI, not against the total you are asked to pay.

Does paying extra reduce the tenure or the EMI?

Tenure, by default, and that is the version that saves you money — the instalment stays the same and the loan simply ends sooner. Reducing the EMI instead keeps you paying interest for the full term. Banks usually let you pick, and rarely volunteer which one you are getting.

How do I compare two loan offers?

Tick "Compare with another loan" under the result and enter the second amount, rate and tenure. The table lists the EMI, total interest, total paid and tenure for both loans, with the difference in rupees and the interest difference in percent. Tenure can be typed in years or months.

How accurate is EMI Calculator?

It uses the standard formula for the calculation, so the maths is exact for the numbers you enter. For loans, tax and investments, treat the answer as a close estimate and confirm the final figure with your bank or adviser.

Does EMI Calculator save the numbers I enter?

No. Your figures are worked out in the browser and are not sent to any server or stored in an account. Salary, loan and health details stay on your device.

Are the income tax calculators up to date?

They are built on the slabs published by the Income Tax Department for the year shown on each page. Rules change with each Budget, so confirm the figures on the official portal before you file.

Can I rely on these calculators for health decisions?

They are good for a quick check, such as BMI or daily calories. They are not a medical diagnosis, so talk to a doctor before changing medicine, diet or treatment based on a result.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Every calculator runs in the browser on your phone or computer, with no download and no sign-up. Bookmark the page if you use it often.
