How to Save HTML as a PDF Document

HTML to PDF Converter: before and after HTML A HTML FILE HTML TO PDF PDF A PDF FILE

HTML is how web pages, email templates and many exported reports are written. Browsers display it happily, yet clients, teachers and offices often ask for a PDF instead: one fixed file that prints properly and cannot shift around depending on screen size.

Hand the converter a saved .html or .htm page, or flip the source switch to pasting and drop raw markup into the box. Then set the paper, the page direction, the margin, the Layout width and page numbering, and press Convert to PDF. Your browser works out how every element looks under the page’s own stylesheet, and the converter sets that onto real pages: font sizes, weights, colours, backgrounds, indents, list markers and table widths.

Because it rebuilds the content rather than taking a screenshot, the PDF has selectable, searchable text and clickable links. Web fonts give way to a similar standard PDF typeface, and side-by-side flex or grid layouts are stacked one under another. It never fetches anything from the internet, so a private report stays private.

Steps to Convert an HTML File to PDF

Works the same for a saved file or markup copied from an editor.

  1. 1. Add the HTML

With "Upload a file" active, tap "Choose an HTML file". Prefer the clipboard? Flip to "Paste it in" and drop the code into the large text area.

    What is read:

    • Your page’s CSS: fonts, sizes, colours, backgrounds
    • Headings, paragraphs, quotes and preformatted text
    • Bulleted and numbered lists
    • Tables with widths, borders and merged cells
    • Links, kept clickable
    • Pictures embedded inside the file as data
  2. 2. Choose the paper

Three sheets are offered. A4 suits India, Europe and most of the world; Letter is the North American standard, and Legal is its taller cousin.

  3. 3. Set orientation and margin

Portrait suits text; Landscape gives wide tables more room. Move the Margin slider between 0 and 30 percent, 15 being the starting point.

  4. 4. Layout width and page breaks

Layout width starts at Fit the paper. Desktop, Tablet or Phone lays the page out at that screen width, then scales it to the sheet. Tick One long page, with no page breaks for a single tall page; otherwise Add page numbers is there if you want it.

    Fit the paperDesktopTabletPhone

  5. 5. Press Convert to PDF

The pages are laid out in a moment and the file downloads carrying your .html file’s name; pasted markup comes out as document.pdf. A closing line reports the page count and the size in KB or MB.

What Is HTML to PDF Conversion?

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) describes the structure of a web document with tags such as <h1> for a main heading, <p> for a paragraph and <table> for a table. A browser reads those tags and flows the content to fit whatever window it is in. PDF, by contrast, fixes content onto pages of a set size.

This converter keeps both the structure and the look. The markup is loaded into a sealed, hidden frame, the browser applies the page’s own stylesheet, and each visible element is set onto the PDF with the font size, colour and spacing it ended up with. Scripts, embedded frames, form controls and anything marked as hidden are skipped. The <title> of the page becomes the PDF’s title.

Your HTML content on fixed pages, styled by its own CSS, with headings, lists and tables in place.

Typical HTML sources

  • Email newsletters and templates
  • Reports exported as HTML
  • Documentation pages
  • Articles saved from the web
  • Invoices built as HTML
  • Coursework written in HTML
  • Drafts from a website editor

Why Turn HTML into PDF?

A web page changes shape on every screen and can break when files move. A PDF is one self-contained document that looks the same when emailed, printed or opened years later.

“HTML is for screens that change; PDF is for pages that stay put.”
  • Prints on proper pages
  • A fixed record of the content
  • Searchable, selectable text
  • No outside requests from your markup
  • One file to attach and send
  • Tables kept as tables
  • Page numbers if you want them
  • Free with no watermark

Popular HTML to PDF Jobs

These are the files people usually bring here.

  • Exported reports Analytics, test and accounting tools often export HTML. A PDF is easier to circulate to managers.
  • HTML invoices and receipts Keep a printable copy of an invoice or order confirmation that arrived as HTML.
  • Newsletters Save a newsletter template or campaign as a PDF for approval before sending.
  • Developer documentation Turn generated API or project docs into a PDF for offline reading.
  • Web design homework Students submit the content of an HTML assignment as a PDF alongside the code.
  • Saved articles Convert an article saved as an .html file into a clean document for reading later.
  • Terms and policies Archive the wording of terms of service or a privacy policy on the date you accepted it.
  • Data tables HTML tables from a tool or export become printable grids with a header row.

Tips for Better HTML to PDF Output

  1. Keep the styles inside a <style> tag or style attributes. A linked .css file is not fetched, so its colours and sizes would be missing.

  2. To include a picture, embed it in the HTML as a data URI. Linked images are left out on purpose.

  3. A responsive page may look better at Desktop or Tablet width than at Fit the paper. Try both if the first result feels cramped.

  4. Wide tables read better in landscape with a smaller margin.

  5. Give the file a <title> tag; the converter copies it into the PDF’s properties.

  6. Links stay clickable, but only the link text is printed. Write important URLs out in full for paper copies.

  7. Use One long page, with no page breaks for a receipt or a long web article you will only read on screen. Page numbers are left off in that mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How do I convert an HTML file to PDF?

Press "Choose an HTML file" and pick your .html or .htm file, or paste the markup with "Paste it in". Settle the paper and layout settings, and finish with the Convert to PDF button.

Does the PDF copy my page design and CSS?

Largely, yes. Styles written inside the file are applied: font sizes and weights, colours, backgrounds, indents, list markers and table widths. Web fonts become a similar standard typeface, flex and grid columns are stacked, and a stylesheet linked from another file is not loaded.

Can I convert a web page by entering its URL?

No. The converter works on HTML you give it. Save the page from your browser as an .html file, or copy its source, and then convert that.

Are images included in the PDF?

Pictures stored inside the HTML as data URIs, and inline SVG drawings, are placed on the page. Images linked from other files or websites are not fetched, because the converter never makes network requests with your document.

Does JavaScript run during conversion?

No. Scripts never run, and iframes, form controls and hidden elements are skipped. Content that a script would normally add to the page will therefore be missing.

Can I lay the page out as it looks on a desktop or phone?

Yes. Set Layout width to Desktop (1280 px), Tablet (768 px) or Phone (390 px), and the page is laid out at that screen width and then scaled to fit the paper. Fit the paper uses the width of the sheet itself.

Can I make one long PDF page with no breaks?

Yes. Tick One long page, with no page breaks and the whole document becomes a single tall page, the way it scrolls in a browser. Page numbers are not added in that mode.

Can I paste HTML code instead of uploading?

Yes. The "Paste it in" switch swaps the file picker for a text box that takes anything from a short snippet to an entire page. Paper, margin and numbering options work exactly as they do for files.

Can I highlight and copy words in the PDF?

Yes. The converter writes genuine characters onto each page instead of a screenshot of the markup, so readers like Acrobat, Edge or a phone’s PDF viewer can find and copy them.

What is the downloaded file called?

An uploaded page keeps its file name, so report.html gives report.pdf, and pasted markup is saved as document.pdf. If your HTML has a <title>, that title is stored inside the PDF and shown by many readers.

Does it support Hindi, Tamil and other Indian languages?

Yes. When the converter spots Devanagari, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam or Kannada letters, it fetches a matching Noto font; Greek, Cyrillic and ₹ are handled as well. Punjabi, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic characters appear as "?" for now, and the result message points this out.

Does my HTML go to ToolXkit?

No. Parsing and typesetting happen locally in this tab, after which the finished file drops into your downloads. Neither the markup nor the PDF is transmitted.

Can I do this on a phone?

Yes. On a phone, pasting usually works best: copy the HTML, choose "Paste it in", paste and press Convert to PDF.

Will my formatting stay the same after conversion?

Simple layouts usually come through well, including headings, tables and images. Complex documents with unusual fonts, text boxes or tracked changes may shift slightly, so check the preview or the downloaded PDF before sending it anywhere important.
