Get Editable Text From a PDF Into Word
You have the PDF of a resume, a policy, a notice or an old report, and you need to change a date, a name or a whole section. Retyping it takes an evening. Converting it to Word gives you the text back in a form you can edit in minutes.
This converter reads every piece of text on each page along with its font, size, colour, bold and italics, and finds each picture and where it sits. Big text becomes headings, bulleted lines become a list, text laid out like a table becomes a Word table, and lines broken by the page width are joined back into proper paragraphs. Pages set in two columns keep their reading order.
You can convert every page or only the ones you list, and choose whether each PDF page starts a fresh page in Word. If some pages are only scanned images, you decide whether to read their words with OCR, which suits clear printed English, or to keep them as pictures. Charts drawn from lines and shapes are not rebuilt, so expect a little tidying.

From PDF to Editable Word in Five Steps
A short routine that works for typed PDFs and scans alike.
-
1. Choose your PDF
Select the document through Choose file, or drag it in. Right after, a line reports how many pages were found.
-
2. Pick pages and page breaks
Leave the Pages box empty for the whole file, or type something like 1-3, 7. Keep "Start each PDF page on a new page in Word" ticked for page-shaped results, or untick it for one continuous document.
All pages1-3, 75- to the end
-
3. Remove a password first
A PDF with an opening password cannot be read here directly. Take it through our Unlock PDF page first, typing the code you have, and then return with the freed copy.
-
4. Press Convert to Word
If scanned pages were found, a Scanned pages choice appears first: Read the text (OCR) or Keep as a picture. Then press the button. A progress message counts through the pages as they are handled.
-
5. Open the .docx and edit
A file with the PDF’s name and a .docx ending downloads, and a note says how many pictures and tables went in. Any mainstream word processor, desktop or mobile, can open it for editing.
In the Word file:
- Fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italics
- Pictures copied in where they appeared
- Tables rebuilt as real Word tables
- Headings, bulleted lists and joined paragraphs

What Is PDF to Word Conversion?
A PDF stores text as pieces placed at exact spots on a page, much like letters glued onto paper. It records where each piece sits, not which sentences belong together. A Word document stores flowing paragraphs that can be edited and rewrapped. Converting means working out the flow from the positions.
This tool does that by grouping text into lines, measuring font sizes to spot headings, turning neatly aligned rows into tables, and joining lines that were only broken because the page ran out of width. Each word keeps its font, size and colour, pictures are copied across, and the Word page takes the size and margins of the PDF. Text in Indian languages is copied as the PDF stores it; PDFs made with older, non-Unicode Indian fonts may give jumbled letters that no converter can read properly.

PDF to Word Features
How the converter turns a fixed page back into a document you can change.
Headings and lists
Lines clearly larger than the body text become Heading 1, 2 or 3, short bold lines become small headings, and bullet points turn into a proper Word list.
Fonts and colours kept
Every run of text keeps its font name, size, colour, bold and italics. If a font is missing on your computer, Word shows a close match instead.
Photos and logos copied
Pictures from the PDF are placed in the document at the point where they appeared on the page, scaled to fit between the margins.
Real Word tables
Figures and labels set out in a grid are rebuilt as an editable table, with each cell keeping its own styling.
OCR for scanned pages
Pages that are only a picture are spotted as soon as you pick the file. Read their words with OCR, best on clear printed English, or keep each page as a picture.
Standard .docx
The file opens in the common word processors without any add-on.
Opens in:
- Word
- Google Docs
- WPS Office
- LibreOffice
Why Use ToolXkit for PDF to DOCX?
Private documents stay private
Contracts and CVs are read in your browser. We never receive the PDF or the Word file made from it.
Scans are not a dead end
Picture-only pages are found before you convert, so you can read them with OCR or keep them as pictures instead of getting blank pages.
Tidier text
Rejoined paragraphs, real tables and the original fonts mean less clean-up before you start editing.
Free without catches
No account, no email, no page limit and no watermark text added to your document.
Fast on long files
Typed PDFs of hundreds of pages convert quickly because nothing travels over the network. Only OCR on scans takes a few seconds a page.

Tips for Better PDF to Word Results
-
Scanned in a language other than English? The built-in OCR reads English only, so run OCR PDF in your language first and convert the searchable copy it gives you.
-
Password-protected files must be unlocked first with the Unlock PDF tool, using the password you know.
-
Two-column pages become one column. Check the reading order where columns meet.
-
Charts and diagrams built from lines and shapes are not copied. Save that page with PDF to JPG and paste the picture into Word.
-
Tables are found from text that lines up in columns. If one comes out as plain lines, PDF to Excel gives you a second attempt at the rows.
-
Untick the new-page option when you want one continuous document to rewrite, rather than one Word page for every PDF page.
-
After converting, apply your own Word styles to the headings to get a consistent look quickly.
-
If Indian-language text turns into strange characters, the PDF uses an old legacy font. OCR can sometimes recover the words.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
How do I convert a PDF to an editable Word document?
Load the PDF here and click Convert to Word. Each page is read with its fonts, pictures and tables, rebuilt into headings, paragraphs and lists, and a .docx file downloads, ready for changes in your usual word processor.
Will the Word file look the same as the PDF?
Close, though not identical. Fonts, sizes, colours, pictures, tables and headings carry over, and the page size and margins follow the PDF. The text is rebuilt as flowing paragraphs rather than fixed boxes, so line breaks and spacing can shift a little, and charts drawn from shapes are left out.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. When pages are only pictures, a Scanned pages choice appears. Read the text (OCR) recognises the words, works best on clear printed English and takes a few seconds per page. Keep as a picture puts each scan into the document unchanged.
Are images and tables kept?
Yes. Pictures are copied into the document where they appeared, and neat columns of text turn into Word tables you can edit. Charts or diagrams drawn from lines and shapes, rather than stored as pictures, are not carried over.
Can I convert only some pages of a PDF to Word?
Yes. Enter a list in the Pages box, like 2-4, 9, or 6- to go from page 6 onwards. An empty box means the whole file. Only the pages you name go into the .docx.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF to Word?
Not directly. If the PDF needs a password to open, remove it first with the Unlock PDF tool using the password you already have, then convert the unlocked copy.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The text is read and the .docx is assembled in your browser. Your document is never transferred, so it is safe for contracts, statements and CVs.
Does PDF to Word work on Android and iPhone?
It does. Visit the page on your mobile, select the PDF and press Convert to Word. Then edit the .docx in the Word, Google Docs or WPS app.
What about PDFs written in Hindi or Tamil?
It copies text exactly as the PDF stores it. PDFs created with Unicode fonts give correct Tamil, Hindi and other letters. Many older Indian-language PDFs use legacy fonts, and their text comes out jumbled in any converter. The OCR option for scans reads English only.
Is there a page limit?
No page cap is set. Long text PDFs of a few hundred pages convert fine because the work is done on your device. Only very large files on low-memory phones may struggle.
Why are some lines headings when they should not be?
Headings are guessed from size and boldness. A short bold line, such as a label, can be taken for a heading. Change its style in Word with one click.
What happens to page numbers and headers?
They come across as ordinary text at the top and bottom of each page’s content, because they are part of the page. Delete them, or move them into Word’s own header and footer if you want them to update by themselves.
Is PDF to Word free?
Yes, entirely free. You will not meet a registration form, a trial period or a file quota, and the Word document contains only your own text.
Will PDF to Word keep my tables and layout?
Text and simple tables usually come across cleanly. Pages with columns, sidebars or heavy design may need some tidying afterwards, because a PDF stores positions on the page rather than a structure. Always glance through the result.
