How to Trim Video Online

Trim Video: before and after MP4 A BEFORE TRIM VIDEO MP4 A AFTER

Trim Video cuts a clip down to the part you want, in the tab, with no upload. Drag the in and out handles along a strip of frames from your own video, or type the times as 1:05 or 65 — both are accepted. Press Play selection to hear and see exactly what you are about to save before you save it, and switch the tool round to remove the middle and keep the ends instead.

Cuts a clip down to the part that matters. Trimming first is worth doing before any other operation — every subsequent step processes fewer frames, which on browser-based video is the difference between finishing and exhausting the tab.

Why Use Video Tools in Your Browser?

Phone videos are large, and every app has its own rules for length, shape and format. Trimming, compressing, converting and resizing clips here gets them ready to post or send without uploading your footage to a stranger’s server.

“A shorter, smaller clip is far more likely to get watched.”
  • Clips that fit upload limits
  • GIFs from short moments
  • Subtitles converted and shifted
  • Screen recordings without software
  • Vertical videos for Reels
  • Sound pulled out as MP3
  • Only the scenes you want
  • Footage kept on your device

Popular Uses for Video Converters

These are the video jobs people come back for again and again.

  • Reels and Shorts Crop a landscape clip into a vertical video for Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.
  • WhatsApp status Cut a long video into short parts that fit a WhatsApp status.
  • Email and chat limits Compress an MP4 so it can be sent without a file-too-large error.
  • Reaction GIFs Turn a funny moment from a clip into a GIF to share in chats.
  • Audio from video Save the soundtrack or speech from a video as an MP3 file.
  • Tutorial recordings Record your screen to show a colleague how to do a task.

Tips and Good to Know

  1. Cutting re-encodes the video, so a clip loses a little quality even when nothing else changes. That is true of every browser trimmer.

  2. Removing the middle decodes the source twice, once for each end, so it takes about twice as long as a plain trim.

  3. For a clip that only needs to be smaller rather than shorter, Compress Video is the better tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

Can I type the exact time instead of dragging?

Yes. The start and end boxes take 1:05, 0:01:05 and a bare 65, and all three mean the same second. You can also play the video, pause where you want the cut, and press "Set start to playhead" — usually the fastest way to land on a precise frame.

How do I cut a piece out of the middle?

Select the part you want gone, then turn on "Remove this section instead of keeping it". The head and the tail are encoded and joined, with the audio spliced to match. Selecting the whole clip is refused rather than producing an empty file.

Does trimming lose quality?

A little. The kept part is decoded and re-encoded, which is how every browser-based trimmer works, so the result is not a byte-for-byte copy of those frames. At the default settings the loss is not visible on a phone or a laptop screen.

Does trimming re-encode the whole video?

Only what it must. Trimming changes where the file starts and ends rather than rebuilding every frame, which is why it finishes far faster than compressing and why the picture quality is unchanged.

Why did my cut land slightly off from where I set it?

Video can only be cut cleanly at a keyframe, and keyframes sit some distance apart. The cut snaps to the nearest one, which can be a fraction of a second from your mark — noticeable on a tight edit, invisible on most.

Is there a limit on video length or size?

The site sets no limit. Video processing happens on your own device, so long or high-resolution clips need more memory and time. Short phone clips are quick, while hour-long 4K files are better handled on a computer.

Does Trim Video upload my video?

No. Your clip is processed in the browser and the result downloads to your device. Home videos and work recordings are never sent to a server.

Why is Trim Video slower than a desktop editor?

Video work is heavy, and here it runs inside a browser tab using your device’s own processor. That keeps the footage private, but it can take longer than installed software. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

Will the quality drop after compression?

Some detail is lost when a video is made much smaller. Moderate compression is hard to notice on a phone screen, while very small targets make fast motion look blocky. Try a setting and watch the result before sharing.

Can I turn a landscape clip into a vertical Reel?

Yes. Reels & Shorts Maker and Resize & Crop Video crop a wide clip to the tall 9:16 shape that Reels, Shorts and status updates use. Download the vertical version and it is ready to post.
