How to Make an XML Sitemap From a List of URLs
Search engines find pages by following links, and pages with few links pointing to them can be missed for weeks. An XML sitemap hands Google and Bing the full list in one file, which is especially useful for a new site or one with deep pages.
Paste your page addresses, one per line, and this generator wraps each one in the correct sitemap tags with today's date as the last-modified value. You can add a change frequency and a priority, or leave them out. The XML appears straight away, ready to copy.

Steps to Generate sitemap.xml
-
1. Paste your URLs
Put one full address per line, starting with https://. A counter above the box shows how many URLs it has picked up.
-
2. Set change frequency
Pick how often the pages usually change, from always to never, or choose 'Leave out' to skip the tag entirely.
-
3. Choose a priority
Type a number from 0.0 to 1.0, or clear the box. Google has said it ignores this value, so it matters little.
-
4. Copy the XML
Press Copy, or Download and rename the file to sitemap.xml. Upload it to your site root and submit it in Google Search Console.
What Is an XML Sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages on a website in a format defined at sitemaps.org. Each page sits inside a url tag with its address in loc, and optional lastmod, changefreq and priority tags. One sitemap may hold up to 50,000 URLs, and this page warns you if your list goes over that.
Why Use SEO Tools Before Publishing?
Search engines read titles, descriptions, headings and structured data before they ever show a page to anyone. Checking and generating these from your own markup catches problems before a page goes live.
“Small fixes in the page head decide how you look in search.”
- Titles that fit the results page
- Schema markup without hand-coding
- Share previews that look right
- Campaign links tracked with UTM
- Descriptions within length
- Robots and sitemaps checked
- Keywords counted, not guessed
- Headings in a logical order
Popular Uses for Search Optimization Tools
Site owners use these while writing, launching and fixing pages.
- Search snippet preview See how a title and description will look in Google before publishing.
- Rich results Generate FAQ, product or recipe schema in JSON-LD for a page.
- Robots.txt rules Write and test robots.txt so crawlers skip only the pages you intend.
- XML sitemaps Build or validate an XML sitemap listing the pages you want found.
- Social sharing Make Open Graph and Twitter Card tags so links show a proper preview.
- Keyword checks Count how often a keyword appears so a page does not overuse it.
- Campaign tracking Add UTM tags to links in emails and ads to see what brings visitors.
- Heading structure Check that a page has one H1 and a sensible order of subheadings.
Inside the Sitemap Generator
Live URL counter
The count updates as you paste, so you can see at a glance whether every line was picked up.
Today as lastmod
Every entry gets the current date in YYYY-MM-DD form, which is the format search engines expect.
Safe characters
Ampersands and other special characters in your URLs are escaped, so the XML stays valid when a link carries query parameters.
The 50,000 limit flagged
Paste more than the protocol allows in one file and a warning tells you to split the list and use a sitemap index.

Tips for a Useful Sitemap
-
List only pages you want in search results. Leave out login screens, thank-you pages and anything carrying a noindex tag.
-
Use the exact canonical address of each page. Mixing www and non-www, or http and https, sends crawlers mixed signals.
-
Every URL is stamped with today's date. If most pages did not change today, edit those dates or regenerate only when pages really change.
-
The download arrives as a .txt file. Rename it to sitemap.xml before uploading, or paste the copied text into a new file.
-
Add a Sitemap: line to your robots.txt so every crawler finds the file, not only the ones you submit it to.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
How do I submit my sitemap to Google?
Upload sitemap.xml to the root of your site, then open Google Search Console, choose Sitemaps in the menu, type the file name and press Submit. Bing Webmaster Tools has a similar Sitemaps page.
Does this tool crawl my website for URLs?
No. It builds the sitemap from the addresses you paste. That keeps unpublished pages private, but it means you need your list of URLs first, from your CMS, a spreadsheet or your navigation menu.
Do change frequency and priority help ranking?
Hardly at all. Google has said it ignores priority and treats changefreq as a weak hint at most. The accurate lastmod date and the list of URLs itself are what matter, so leaving the other two out is perfectly fine.
How many URLs can one sitemap hold?
The sitemaps.org protocol allows 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split their pages across several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index file.
Is my list of URLs uploaded?
No. The XML is built in your browser and stays there until you copy or download it. The list you paste never reaches ToolXkit.
Will these tools guarantee better rankings?
No tool can promise that. These checks fix technical problems that hold a page back, such as missing titles or broken schema. Rankings still depend mostly on useful content and links from other sites.
Is Sitemap Generator free with no limits?
Yes. Run as many checks as you want, without an account or a paid plan. There is no premium version of this tool held back behind an upgrade.
How long should a title and meta description be?
Aim for a title of about 50 to 60 characters and a description of about 150 to 160, so neither is cut off. Google measures in pixels, so the snippet preview is the surest guide.
Does Google use my structured data?
Valid schema makes a page eligible for rich results such as FAQs, recipes or product stars, but Google decides when to show them. Test the markup, then give it time to be crawled.
Does Sitemap Generator keep a copy of my pages or keywords?
No. The checks run in your browser, and nothing you paste is saved or shared. Unpublished pages and keyword plans stay private until you are ready.
