GST slab

The rates in use in India since GST 2.0 (22 September 2025): 5% and 18% for most goods, 40% for luxury and sin goods, 3% for gold and silver. Type any other rate in the box above, for example 12% or 28% on an older invoice, or VAT.

Where is the sale?

This changes only how the tax is split on the invoice, never the amount payable.

₹1,000.00
Taxable value
₹180.00
Tax at 18%
₹1,180.00
Total payable

Invoice breakdown

Taxable valuethe amount you entered₹1,000.00
CGST9%, central government₹90.00
SGST / UTGST9%, the state or union territory₹90.00
Total tax18% of ₹1,000.00₹180.00
Total payable₹1,180.00

Working: ₹1,000.00 × 18% = ₹180.00 tax, so the total is ₹1,180.00.

Removing tax is not subtracting the percentage. Taking 18% off a gross price means dividing by 1.18, which is why the two directions give different answers. The intra-state and inter-state figures add up to the same total: only the heads of tax on the invoice change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive?

Exclusive means the price you entered is before tax and GST is added on top. Inclusive means the tax is already inside the figure and is being worked back out. Getting the two the wrong way round is the single most common invoicing error, and the amounts differ by more than people expect.

How does it split into CGST and SGST?

For a sale within one state, the rate is halved between central and state GST — 18% becomes 9% plus 9%. For a sale across states it is a single IGST at the full rate. The split shown here follows that rule; which one applies depends on where the buyer is.

How accurate is GST & VAT Calculator?

It uses the standard formula for the calculation, so the maths is exact for the numbers you enter. For loans, tax and investments, treat the answer as a close estimate and confirm the final figure with your bank or adviser.

Does GST & VAT Calculator save the numbers I enter?

No. Your figures are worked out in the browser and are not sent to any server or stored in an account. Salary, loan and health details stay on your device.

Are the income tax calculators up to date?

They are built on the slabs published by the Income Tax Department for the year shown on each page. Rules change with each Budget, so confirm the figures on the official portal before you file.

Can I rely on these calculators for health decisions?

They are good for a quick check, such as BMI or daily calories. They are not a medical diagnosis, so talk to a doctor before changing medicine, diet or treatment based on a result.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Every calculator runs in the browser on your phone or computer, with no download and no sign-up. Bookmark the page if you use it often.
