The return is what you expect, not a promise, as NPS is market linked. Under the PFRDA exit rules of December 2025, subscribers who are not government employees must use at least 20% of the corpus for an annuity (40% for government employees), and a corpus of ₹8 lakh or less can be taken out whole. The pension is taxed as ordinary income.

Projects the pension corpus and the monthly pension it buys. At retirement at least 40% of the corpus must be used to purchase an annuity, so the lump sum you can withdraw is smaller than the total — and the pension depends on annuity rates at that time, which nobody can project accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How much of my NPS corpus can I take as a lump sum?

Up to 60% at retirement, tax free. At least 40% must buy an annuity, which becomes your pension and is taxable as income. That mandatory annuity is the main criticism of the scheme, since annuity rates at the time you retire are outside your control.

What is the extra 80CCD(1B) deduction?

An additional ₹50,000 deduction for NPS, over and above the ₹1.5 lakh 80C limit — one of the few ways to increase total deductions beyond it. It applies only under the old regime.

How accurate is NPS Calculator?

It uses the standard formula for the calculation, so the maths is exact for the numbers you enter. For loans, tax and investments, treat the answer as a close estimate and confirm the final figure with your bank or adviser.

Does NPS Calculator save the numbers I enter?

No. Your figures are worked out in the browser and are not sent to any server or stored in an account. Salary, loan and health details stay on your device.

Are the income tax calculators up to date?

They are built on the slabs published by the Income Tax Department for the year shown on each page. Rules change with each Budget, so confirm the figures on the official portal before you file.

Can I rely on these calculators for health decisions?

They are good for a quick check, such as BMI or daily calories. They are not a medical diagnosis, so talk to a doctor before changing medicine, diet or treatment based on a result.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Every calculator runs in the browser on your phone or computer, with no download and no sign-up. Bookmark the page if you use it often.
