How to Rotate PDF Pages Permanently
Scanners, phone cameras and some exports save pages lying on their side. You can turn them in a viewer, but the next person who opens the file sees the same crooked page, and it prints wrong too.
This tool writes the rotation into the PDF. Choose 90° right, 180° or 90° left, then decide whether every page turns or only the ones you name. You can type page numbers, or click the small page pictures to pick them. For a mix of directions, choose Page by page and use the turn arrows on each picture. Pages you leave out keep their current direction.
Only the direction of each page changes, so text stays selectable, pictures are not recompressed and the file size barely moves. Your browser does the job, and the document never leaves your machine.

Step-by-Step Guide to Rotate PDF Files
Five quick steps, whether it is one sideways page or a whole scan.
-
1. Add your PDF
Use Choose file to fetch the sideways document. Within a moment you see its page count and file size above the options.
-
2. Pick the direction
Under "Turn by", choose how far each page should turn. The turn is added to the page’s current angle, so a page already at 90° set to 90° right ends up upside down.
90° right180°90° left
-
3. Choose which pages turn
Under "Which pages", keep Every page to rotate the lot, choose "Only the ones I list" when just a few pages are wrong, or choose "Page by page" to turn each picture with its own arrows.
-
4. Type or click the pages
With "Only the ones I list" chosen, enter page numbers into "Pages to turn", or click their thumbnails. The hint underneath says how many pages you have selected.
How to write pages:
- 3 turns page three only
- 2-6 turns pages two to six
- 1, 4, 9 turns three separate pages
- 10- turns page ten to the end
-
5. Rotate and save
Press Rotate PDF. The corrected copy downloads with "-rotated" added to its name, and the result shows how many pages turned plus the size before and after.

What Does Rotating a PDF Do?
Every PDF page carries a small setting that tells readers which way up to show it. Rotating a page changes that setting in steps of 90 degrees. The words and pictures on the page are not redrawn, only turned.
Because the new direction is saved inside the file, it holds everywhere: in Adobe Reader, in a browser, on a phone, and when the file is printed or sent to someone else.

.PDFPages that open the right way up for every reader, with nothing else changed.
Pages that often need turning
- Scans fed in the wrong way
- Photos of documents taken sideways
- Wide spreadsheets and charts
- Landscape drawings and plans
- Receipts shot upside down
- Mixed pages after a merge
Why Rotate PDF Pages?
A sideways page makes readers tilt their heads, zoom and scroll. It looks careless in a job application or a client report. Fixing it once in the file saves everyone that trouble.
“Turn it once in the file and nobody has to turn it again.”
- Pages that are easy to read
- A tidier file to send
- A fix that takes seconds
- Consistent pages after merging
- Correct printouts
- No drop in quality
- Better reading on phones
- The change holds in every viewer

Tips for Rotating PDF Pages
-
Scroll through the file first and note which pages are wrong and which way they lean.
-
Pages that lean different ways? Choose Page by page and press the left or right arrow under each crooked picture.
-
Clicking thumbnails is quicker than typing when the wrong pages are scattered.
-
Use an open range like 5- when everything from one page to the end came in sideways.
-
Open the downloaded copy and check a couple of pages before you delete the old one.
-
Rotate each file before merging, or merge first and rotate the odd pages afterwards. Either order works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
My scan has one sideways page. How do I fix only that sheet?
Choose "Only the ones I list", then enter the single page, say 4, or click its thumbnail. Pick a direction and press Rotate PDF. Every other page stays as it was.
Will the rotation stay when I open the file elsewhere?
Yes. The new direction is saved inside the PDF, so Adobe Reader, Chrome, a phone viewer and a printer all show the page turned.
Does rotating reduce PDF quality?
No. The page content is not redrawn or compressed; only its direction setting changes. Text stays selectable and the file size stays almost the same.
What is the difference between 90° right and 90° left?
90° right turns the page clockwise, like turning a clock hand forward a quarter. 90° left turns it anticlockwise. Use 180° for pages that are upside down.
My page ended up upside down. What happened?
The turn is added to the angle the page already had. If a page was already turned 90° and you turned it 90° right again, it ends at 180°. The page pictures show the result before you save, so check them first.
Can I rotate pages in different directions at once?
Yes. Choose "Page by page" under Which pages. Each picture gets its own left and right arrows, and each page keeps the turn you gave it. Reset sets them all back to upright.
Will this turn PDF pages on a mobile?
Yes. On an Android handset or an iPhone, visit this page, pick the file, choose the direction and pages, and the rotated copy lands in your downloads folder.
Does it work on a locked PDF?
Files that merely forbid printing or copying need no extra step; the tool handles them quietly. If the PDF demands a password before it will display at all, enter it in the field that appears and carry on as normal.
How big a PDF can I rotate?
No fixed cap is set. Since the turning is done by your own hardware, the practical ceiling is its memory. Thumbnails cover the whole file, however long it is.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Opening, turning and saving all happen inside this browser tab, and no copy of the scan is sent to any server.
Is Rotate PDF free?
Yes. Rotating is free every time, there is nothing to register for, and the turned pages carry no added branding or marks of any kind.
Will Rotate PDF lower the quality of my PDF?
No. Rearranging, rotating, splitting or joining pages does not re-compress the text or pictures inside them, so they look as sharp as before. Tools that change the layout, such as booklets, scale the pages without redrawing their contents.
Can I use Rotate PDF on a phone or tablet?
Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and tablets as well as computers. Long documents take longer on a phone, but the steps and the result are the same.
Can I rearrange a password-protected PDF?
You need to remove the password first. Use Unlock PDF with the password you already know, then come back and rearrange the pages. None of the tools here can open a file whose password you do not have.
