How to Count Working Days Between Two Dates

Working Days Calculator: before and after TEXT A YOUR INPUT WORKING DAYSCALCULATOR DONE A RESULT

Notice periods, project deadlines, leave balances and delivery promises are counted in working days, not calendar days. This calculator takes a start and end date, removes the weekends and any holidays you list, and tells you how many working days remain.

Both end dates are included in the count. You decide whether Saturday, Sunday or both count as the weekend, so a six-day week works as well as a five-day one. Holidays go in a box, one date per line, and are skipped automatically.

Steps to Calculate Business Days

  1. 1. Pick the From and To dates

Use the two date pickers. The order does not matter; the tool always counts from the earlier date to the later one.

  2. 2. Set the weekend

Tick Saturday is a weekend and Sunday is a weekend as they apply. Untick Saturday for offices, schools or shops that work six days.

  3. 3. List any holidays

Type public or company holidays in Holidays to exclude as YYYY-MM-DD, one per line or separated by commas, for example 2026-01-26.

  4. 4. Read the totals

The main figure is the working days. Rows below show total days, weekend days, holidays excluded, working weeks and working hours at 8 a day.

What Are Working Days?

Working days, also called business days, are the days an organisation is open, usually Monday to Friday minus public holidays. A calendar year has around 260 weekdays; after national and state holidays, a typical Indian office works roughly 240 to 250 of them. Counting them properly matters for notice periods, statutory deadlines and invoice terms such as payment within 30 working days.

Why Use Date and Time Calculators?

Counting days on a calendar, adding working days to a deadline or converting IST to a client’s time zone is easy to get wrong. These calculators handle leap years, month lengths and time zone offsets for you.

“One wrong day on a deadline can cost more than it seems.”
  • Exact days between two dates
  • IST to any time zone
  • Your age to the day
  • Meetings planned across countries
  • Working days without weekends
  • Leap years counted correctly
  • Timesheets added up
  • Printable calendars in seconds

Popular Uses for Date Calculators

Most date and time questions come from work, travel or family plans.

  • Notice periods Count the exact last working day after giving a sixty or ninety day notice.
  • Client calls abroad Find a meeting time that suits people in India, London and California.
  • Age for forms Work out exact age in years, months and days for an exam or job form.
  • Project deadlines Add business days to a start date and see when the work is really due.
  • Weekly timesheets Add up start and finish times, breaks and overtime for a week of shifts.
  • Birthday countdowns See how many days are left until a birthday, wedding or exam.
  • Printed calendars Make a monthly calendar for the fridge, a notice board or a classroom.
  • Timestamps for developers Convert Unix timestamps and ISO 8601 dates into a readable date and time.

Tips for Counting Business Days

  1. Start and end dates are both counted. If a deadline means working days after today, set From to tomorrow.

  2. A holiday that lands on a weekend is counted once, as a weekend day. In 2026, 15 August falls on a Saturday, for example.

  3. Keep your company’s holiday list in a note and paste it in each time. The dates must be in year-month-day order.

  4. Only Saturday and Sunday can be marked as the weekend here. For a Friday weekend, count Fridays as holidays instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How do I calculate working days between two dates?

Choose the two dates, tick which days are the weekend and list any holidays. The calculator counts every day from start to end inclusive and removes weekends and holidays, leaving the working days.

Does it include Indian public holidays automatically?

No. Holidays differ between states and employers, so you type the ones that apply. For example, add 2026-01-26 for Republic Day and 2026-10-02 for Gandhi Jayanti.

Are the start and end dates included?

Yes, both ends are included, as the Total days row notes. From Monday to Friday of the same week gives 5 working days, not 4.

Can I count a six-day working week?

Yes. Untick Saturday is a weekend so only Sunday is treated as a day off. Many shops, factories and schools in India work this way.

How many working days are there in a year?

With Saturday and Sunday off, a year has 260 or 261 weekdays, depending on how the dates fall. Enter 1 January to 31 December and add your holidays for the exact figure.

Why is my day count off by one?

Some counts include both the start and the end date, and some include only one. That single day is usually the difference. Check which way your office, court or contract counts before relying on a deadline.

Does Working Days Calculator cost anything?

No. There is no sign-up and no limit. Use it on a phone or computer whenever a date question comes up, and the dates you enter are not saved anywhere.

Are leap years counted?

Yes. The calculators use the real calendar, so 29 February is counted in leap years and every month has its correct number of days, including the short ones.

Does Working Days Calculator use my device’s clock?

It reads today’s date and time from your device where it needs them, such as for age or countdowns. If your phone or computer clock is wrong, correct it and the results will follow.

How far is IST from GMT?

India Standard Time is five and a half hours ahead of GMT and UTC, all year round, because India does not change its clocks for summer. Other countries do, so their gap with IST can shift.
