How to Sign a PDF Without Printing It

Make your signature first: draw it with a mouse, trackpad or finger, type your name in one of three styles, or upload a photo of your real signature. Then place it on the page, drag it where it belongs and resize it from the corner. Add a date, your initials or a text line such as your name and title, and set any of them to repeat on every page, which is how contracts are usually initialled.

Load the PDF that needs signing. The first page appears in the "Where it goes" section, ready for your signature.

In "Your signature", pick how to make it, and set the Ink colour if you like. A small preview shows the result.

3. Place it on the page
Click the page where the signature should go, or press "+ Signature". Drag it to adjust the position, and pull the blue dot at its corner to make it larger or smaller.

4. Add date, initials or text
Press "+ Date", "+ Initials" or "+ Text line". Pick the date and how it is written, type your initials, or type the words for a text line.

5. Choose the right pages
Use Previous and Next to reach the page you need. Select an item in the list below the page and set "Goes on" to This page or Every page. The Size slider and Remove button are there too.

6. Sign and download
Press "Sign and download". The signed copy is saved with "-signed" at the end of the file name, and a green line reports how many marks landed on how many pages.

What Does It Mean to Sign a PDF Online?
Signing a PDF online means putting a picture of your handwriting, or a typed version of it, in the spot where you would sign by hand. The result looks and prints like a signed paper copy, and it carries the same standing as signing a printout and scanning it.

Draw your signature larger than you need. It is trimmed and scaled down when placed, so it stays smooth.

For an uploaded signature, sign on white paper with a dark pen and crop the photo closely. A JPG keeps its white background, so a transparent PNG blends in better.

Does this add a digital certificate?
No. It adds a visible signature image, not a cryptographic signature. It does not prove identity or detect later changes to the file.

Is it safe to password-protect a PDF in a browser?

No. It removes a password only when you type the correct one. It is meant for your own files that you open often, not for getting into documents you are not allowed to read.
