How to Extract PDF Pages Into a New File

Extract Pages From PDF: before and after PDF A BEFORE EXTRACT PAGES PDF A AFTER

Often you only need a slice of a long document: the two-page summary from an annual report, one chapter of a textbook, the signed page of an agreement. Extracting copies those pages into a file of their own and leaves the rest behind.

After you choose the PDF, small pictures of its pages appear. Tap the ones you want to keep and they get a blue outline, or type them into the "Pages to keep" box. Mixing is fine: 1-3, 10 keeps pages one, two, three and ten.

Under What to download, keep "One PDF with all the pages" or switch to "Each page as its own PDF (zip)". Press Extract pages and the result downloads. The pages keep their original look, with selectable text and full-quality images, and your source file is left alone.

Extract PDF Pages in Five Easy Steps

This is all it takes to save a few pages as their own PDF.

  1. 1. Open your PDF

Bring the document in by dragging, or use Choose file. A short line then confirms its length in pages and its size.

  2. 2. Tap the pages to keep

In the grid under "Or click the pages", tap each page you want. Chosen pages get a blue frame and the counter above the grid goes up.

    Good to know:

    • Select all and Clear sit just above the grid.
    • The magnifier shows any page at full size.
    • Tap a page again to unselect it.
  3. 3. Or type what you need

The "Pages to keep" box accepts single pages, runs and open ends, separated by commas.

    Examples:

    • 1 keeps the first page only
    • 4-6 keeps pages four to six
    • 1-3, 10 keeps four pages
    • 15- keeps page fifteen to the end
  4. 4. Press Extract pages

A new document is built from your chosen pages. They always appear in the order they had in the original, whatever order you typed them.

  5. 5. Save the extracted PDF

One PDF downloads with "-extracted" on its name, and the result screen compares the sizes. With the ZIP choice, each page arrives as its own file, like report-page-004.pdf, inside report-pages.zip.

What Is Page Extraction?

Extracting pages means making a new PDF that contains only a chosen set of pages from an existing one. It is the mirror image of removing pages: instead of naming what goes, you name what stays.

The chosen pages are copied whole, so the new file holds the same text, fonts and pictures as those pages had. A few pages taken from a large scan will usually produce a much smaller PDF that is easier to send.

Extracted pages

.PDF

Only the pages you picked, gathered into one new document.

What people extract

  • A summary from a long report
  • One chapter of a book
  • The signed page of a contract
  • A single invoice from a batch
  • A mark sheet or certificate page
  • Key slides from a deck
  • The page a form asks for

Why Save Selected Pages Separately?

Sending a whole document when someone needs two pages wastes their time and can reveal more than you intend. A short extract is quick to open, easy to read and small enough for any upload box.

“Share the page, not the whole pile.”
  • Much smaller files
  • Straight to the point
  • Original quality kept
  • Print only what matters
  • Nothing extra revealed
  • Fits strict upload limits
  • Easy to email
  • Keep key pages handy

Popular Uses for Extract Pages

The situations where saving a few pages on their own helps most.

  • Mark sheets Save one semester’s results page from a combined transcript for an application.
  • Signature pages Send just the page that needs a signature instead of the whole agreement.
  • Textbook chapters Keep the chapter you are studying as a light file on your phone.
  • Report summaries Share the executive summary with people who will not read fifty pages.
  • Single invoices Take one bill out of a scanned batch to claim or file it.
  • ID and address proof Pull the exact page an office wants from a longer scanned set.
  • Key slides Save the three slides a colleague asked about as their own PDF.
  • Evidence pages Isolate the relevant pages of a bundle for a claim or complaint.

Tips for Extracting Pages

  1. Pages always come out in their original order. To change the order, run the result through Organize PDF.

  2. Need each chosen page as a separate file? Under What to download, pick "Each page as its own PDF (zip)".

  3. Removing only a page or two? Remove Pages saves typing a long list of what to keep.

  4. Check the blue-framed pages in the grid before pressing the button.

  5. Rename the downloaded file so it describes the pages inside, like "semester-3-marks.pdf".

  6. Extracted pages from a heavy scan can still be large. Compress PDF can shrink them further.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

How can I save certain pages of a PDF as a new file?

Choose the PDF, tap each wanted page in the grid or list them in the "Pages to keep" box, then press Extract pages. A new PDF with only those pages downloads right away.

Is it possible to keep just one page?

Yes. Enter a lone number such as 5 in the box, or tap that page’s preview. You end up with a PDF holding that single page and nothing else.

Can I extract pages that are not next to each other?

Yes. Type them separated by commas, such as 2, 7, 11-13, or tap each one. They all go into the same new file.

What order will the pages be in?

The original order. Typing 9, 2 still puts page 2 before page 9. To arrange them differently, open the extracted file in Organize PDF afterwards.

Does extracting reduce quality?

No. Chosen pages are duplicated exactly, words remain selectable, and pictures hold their resolution. The only change is that unchosen pages are missing.

What is the difference between Extract Pages and Split PDF?

Extract Pages works from a hand-picked list of pages and gives one PDF, or one PDF per picked page in a ZIP. Split PDF cuts the whole file into parts by page, by range rows or every few pages.

Can I extract pages on a mobile phone?

Yes. The page grid is easy to use with a finger, and the new PDF saves to your phone’s downloads like any other file.

Is my file safe?

Yes. The extract is built in your browser tab, so the document never leaves the device you are holding. The original file is left untouched as well.

Can I extract from a locked PDF?

Locks that only stop printing or copying are dealt with automatically. For a document that cannot be opened without its password, a box appears. Type the password, press Open, and the page pictures load.

Can I save each extracted page as its own PDF?

Yes. Under What to download, choose "Each page as its own PDF (zip)". Every picked page becomes a one-page PDF that carries its page number in the name, and the whole set downloads as one ZIP.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed one. How much your device can hold in memory is the only real ceiling, and a laptop copes with very long files.

Will Extract Pages lower the quality of my PDF?

No. Rearranging, rotating, splitting or joining pages does not re-compress the text or pictures inside them, so they look as sharp as before. Tools that change the layout, such as booklets, scale the pages without redrawing their contents.

Can I use Extract Pages on a phone or tablet?

Yes. It works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and tablets as well as computers. Long documents take longer on a phone, but the steps and the result are the same.

Can I rearrange a password-protected PDF?

You need to remove the password first. Use Unlock PDF with the password you already know, then come back and rearrange the pages. None of the tools here can open a file whose password you do not have.
