Alphabetize Lines
Put a list into A–Z order, with duplicates removed if you want.
- Free
- No signup
- Nothing uploaded
- No watermark
Worked out in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded — which matters when the text is a customer list or a log file.
How to Use the Alphabetize Lines Online
Alphabetize Lines puts a pasted list into alphabetical order the way a human reads it: capitals and lowercase are mixed together, so antelope, badger, Mongoose and Zebra come out in that order rather than the two capitalised words jumping to the top. Numbers inside lines sort naturally, so item10 follows item9. Tick Remove duplicates and the page tells you how many lines it took out.
Puts a list into A–Z order, with optional deduplication. The case question comes up immediately: a case-sensitive sort puts all capitals before all lowercase, so Zebra sorts before apple, which is almost never what anyone wants from an alphabetical list.

Tips and Good to Know
-
Each line is one item. A comma-separated list needs splitting first, or the whole line sorts as one entry.
-
To sort as numbers, where 100 comes after 20 whatever the digits, Sort Lines has a Sort as numbers option.
-
Leading spaces are ignored when comparing but kept in the output, so an indented list keeps its indent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Do I need to install anything to use the Alphabetize Lines?
No. Alphabetize Lines runs entirely in your browser — there is nothing to download, no extension and no desktop program. It works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Is it safe to use the Alphabetize Lines online?
Safer than the usual alternative, yes. Most online tools upload your file to a server you know nothing about, where it sits until someone deletes it. Here the file never leaves your device — the processing happens in the page itself, so there is no server copy to leak, retain or sell.
Is my text sent anywhere when I use Alphabetize Lines?
No. The text you paste is handled in your browser and never leaves the page. That makes it safe for drafts, customer lists and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?
The site sets none. Long documents are handled by your own device, so a whole book may be slow on an older phone. Articles, essays and long lists are no trouble.
Can I use Alphabetize Lines without making an account?
Yes. There is no login, no email to hand over and no daily limit. Open the page, paste or type, and copy or download the result when it is ready.
Why does my word count differ from Microsoft Word?
Programs treat hyphenated words, numbers and symbols a little differently. The gap is usually a few words in a long piece. If a teacher or portal sets a limit, stay a little under it to be safe.
Do the QR codes made here expire?
No. The information is stored directly in the pattern, with no redirect through our servers, so the code keeps working for as long as the link or text inside it stays valid.
