Build a cron schedule and read back what it means in English.
- Free
- No signup
- Nothing uploaded
- No watermark
Your command
0 3 * * * /usr/local/bin/backup.sh >> /var/log/mycron.log 2>&1
What each part does
- 0 3 * * *
- minute, hour, day of month, month, day of week
- meaning
- Every day at 03:00.
- >> log 2>&1
- append both normal output and errors to the log. Without this, output is emailed to the user — and usually lost.
cron runs with a minimal PATH and no shell profile. Use absolute paths for everything, including the interpreter.
Built in your browser. Nothing you type — paths, hostnames, tokens — is sent anywhere.
How to Use the Cron Expression Generator Online
Cron Expression Generator builds a crontab line from plain choices: every minute, every five minutes, hourly, daily, weekly on a chosen day, monthly, or a custom expression you type. It then reads the schedule back in English, such as "Every day at 03:00", so you can see whether the five fields say what you meant. Add the command and, if you want, a redirect that appends output to a log.
Builds a cron schedule and reads back what it means in English. Reading it back is the check that matters, because cron syntax is compact enough that a plausible-looking expression frequently runs on a schedule nobody intended.

What You Can Do with the Cron Expression Generator
Explains in words what the expression will actually do
Randomness comes from the browser’s CSPRNG where the output is meant to be unguessable
Output length and character set are yours to set rather than fixed by a preset

Tips and Good to Know
-
It does not run or test the job. Cron starts with a minimal PATH and no shell profile, so use absolute paths for the command and its interpreter.
-
Custom expressions are read back as "as written"; the plain-English check covers the presets.
-
Non-standard forms like @reboot, a seconds field or Quartz-style seven-field expressions are not built here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Why did my job run twice, or not at all?
Daylight saving. A schedule set for a time inside the hour the clock skips forward never happens that day, and one inside the repeated hour happens twice. Jobs that must not do either are usually scheduled in UTC, or at an hour no country moves.
What does 0 in the day-of-week field mean?
Sunday, in every common implementation — and 7 also means Sunday in most of them. Day-of-week is the field where cron variants disagree most, so it is worth confirming against your own scheduler before relying on a weekend-only rule.
Is my text sent anywhere when I use Cron Expression Generator?
No. The text you paste is handled in your browser and never leaves the page. That makes it safe for drafts, customer lists and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?
The site sets none. Long documents are handled by your own device, so a whole book may be slow on an older phone. Articles, essays and long lists are no trouble.
Can I use Cron Expression Generator without making an account?
Yes. There is no login, no email to hand over and no daily limit. Open the page, paste or type, and copy or download the result when it is ready.
Why does my word count differ from Microsoft Word?
Programs treat hyphenated words, numbers and symbols a little differently. The gap is usually a few words in a long piece. If a teacher or portal sets a limit, stay a little under it to be safe.
Do the QR codes made here expire?
No. The information is stored directly in the pattern, with no redirect through our servers, so the code keeps working for as long as the link or text inside it stays valid.
