How to Use the Video Converter Online

Video Converter: before and after MP4 A BEFORE VIDEOCONVERTER MP4 A AFTER

Video Converter takes an MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV clip and saves it as MP4 or WebM. It uses WebCodecs and your machine's hardware encoder, so the clip is decoded and re-encoded on your own computer rather than on a server. You choose Small file, Balanced or Best quality, and where the target container allows it the audio track is copied across untouched. Use it for a MOV from an iPhone that a Windows PC will not play, or a WebM screen recording that has to be MP4 for WhatsApp.

Converts between MP4, WebM and MOV in the browser. Video is the most demanding thing here: the clip is decoded and re-encoded on your own machine, so length is limited by memory rather than by an upload cap, and a long file will exhaust the tab.

Why Use Video Tools in Your Browser?

Phone videos are large, and every app has its own rules for length, shape and format. Trimming, compressing, converting and resizing clips here gets them ready to post or send without uploading your footage to a stranger’s server.

“A shorter, smaller clip is far more likely to get watched.”
  • Clips that fit upload limits
  • GIFs from short moments
  • Subtitles converted and shifted
  • Screen recordings without software
  • Vertical videos for Reels
  • Sound pulled out as MP3
  • Only the scenes you want
  • Footage kept on your device

Popular Uses for Video Converters

These are the video jobs people come back for again and again.

  • Reels and Shorts Crop a landscape clip into a vertical video for Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts.
  • WhatsApp status Cut a long video into short parts that fit a WhatsApp status.
  • Email and chat limits Compress an MP4 so it can be sent without a file-too-large error.
  • Reaction GIFs Turn a funny moment from a clip into a GIF to share in chats.
  • Audio from video Save the soundtrack or speech from a video as an MP3 file.
  • Tutorial recordings Record your screen to show a colleague how to do a task.
  • Subtitle fixes Convert SRT to VTT or shift subtitle timing when words arrive too early.

Tips and Good to Know

  1. A long, high-resolution file can run the tab out of memory. If it fails, cut the clip first with Trim Video, or convert it in shorter parts.

  2. Not for making a file smaller on purpose. Converting at Balanced may change the size a little, but Compress Video is built for hitting a target.

  3. Every conversion re-encodes the picture, so quality can only stay the same or drop. Converting back and forth several times will show.

  4. Output is MP4 or WebM only. It reads MOV but does not write it; for Apple devices MP4 plays just as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

Which format should I convert to?

MP4 with H.264 if you want it to play everywhere — phones, televisions, older machines, and every social platform. WebM is smaller at the same quality but is not universally supported. When in doubt the compatible choice costs you a few megabytes and saves an argument.

Does converting reduce the quality?

Slightly, always. Video codecs are lossy, so re-encoding decodes and re-compresses the picture and a little detail goes each time. Converting once is imperceptible; converting the same clip back and forth repeatedly is not.

Is there a limit on video length or size?

The site sets no limit. Video processing happens on your own device, so long or high-resolution clips need more memory and time. Short phone clips are quick, while hour-long 4K files are better handled on a computer.

Does Video Converter upload my video?

No. Your clip is processed in the browser and the result downloads to your device. Home videos and work recordings are never sent to a server.

Why is Video Converter slower than a desktop editor?

Video work is heavy, and here it runs inside a browser tab using your device’s own processor. That keeps the footage private, but it can take longer than installed software. Keep the tab open until it finishes.

Will the quality drop after compression?

Some detail is lost when a video is made much smaller. Moderate compression is hard to notice on a phone screen, while very small targets make fast motion look blocky. Try a setting and watch the result before sharing.

Can I turn a landscape clip into a vertical Reel?

Yes. Reels & Shorts Maker and Resize & Crop Video crop a wide clip to the tall 9:16 shape that Reels, Shorts and status updates use. Download the vertical version and it is ready to post.
