How to Write an Email With AI on Your Own Device
Staring at a blank email to a supplier, a landlord or your child's school? Type what the email needs to say in a sentence or two, pick a tone and a length, and this writer turns it into a finished message with a subject line, greeting and sign-off.
In Chrome or Edge on a desktop, where the built-in on-device AI model is switched on, that model writes the draft. Where it is not available, the page's own code assembles the email from your brief instead, and a small note under the result says which one wrote it. Either way, what you type stays on your computer.

Steps to Draft Your Email
-
1. Describe the email
Type what it needs to say, at least 10 characters, such as a request to confirm a delivery date. 'Use the example' fills in a sample brief.
-
2. Choose tone and length
Set Tone to Neutral, Formal or Casual and Length to Short, Medium or Long. Change 'Written for' to name the reader, such as 'my manager'.
-
3. Press 'Run it'
The draft appears under the button. On the first run with the on-device model, Chrome may download it, which is shown as a percentage.
-
4. Copy, regenerate or go back
Copy or Download the draft. 'Regenerate' writes a new one, and the last three versions stay under Previous drafts.
What Is an AI Email Writer?
It is a tool that turns a short brief into a complete email. This one uses Chrome's built-in Writer API, a small Gemini Nano model that runs on your own computer, when your browser offers it. Firefox, Safari and phone browsers do not have that model, so there the page writes the email with ordinary rules: it rephrases your brief to face the reader and wraps it in a subject, greeting and closing.
Why Use AI Writing Tools on Your Device?
Rewriting an email, summarising notes or drafting a cover letter is quicker with a starting point. These tools use the AI built into supported browsers, so your text is handled on your own device rather than sent away.
“A rough first draft is easier to fix than a blank page.”
- A first draft in moments
- Long text summarised
- No account or API key
- Token costs estimated up front
- Tone changed to suit
- Grammar and spelling flagged
- Text processed on your device
- Plain explanations of code
Popular Uses for On-Device AI
Everyday writing jobs are where these tools help most.

- Study notes Turn a chapter into short notes, flashcards or quiz questions for revision.
- Cover letters Get a first draft of a cover letter to adapt for a specific job.
- Quick summaries Shorten a long article or report into a few key points to read quickly.
- Product descriptions Write a first version of a product listing for an online shop.
- Meeting agendas Draft an agenda or minutes outline from a few notes about the meeting.
- Code and regex help Get a plain-language explanation of a regular expression, SQL query or code block.

What the Email Writer Offers
No upload, no account
The model or the fallback code both run inside your browser, so private details in an email never reach a server.
Tone, length and reader
Three simple controls shape the draft without you having to write a long prompt.
Previous drafts kept
Regenerate as often as you like; the last three versions stay on the page, and 'Use this one' brings any back.
Honest about its source
When the draft comes from the page's own code, a folded note says so and explains how to switch the model on.

Tips for Better Email Drafts
-
Put the facts in the brief: names, dates, order numbers and what you need back. The writer cannot invent details it was not given.
-
Read every draft before sending. The on-device model is small and can get a detail wrong.
-
Replace the [your name] placeholder at the end, which the code-written version leaves for you.
-
To get model-written drafts in Chrome, open chrome://flags, enable 'Enables optimization guide on device' and 'Writer API for Gemini Nano', then restart.
-
Set 'Written for' to the real reader, such as 'a school principal'. It changes how formal the draft sounds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Is this AI email writer really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no credit limit and no API key, because nothing runs on a paid server. The model, when present, is part of Chrome on your own machine.
Why does it say the draft was written by the page’s own code?
Your browser does not have the on-device model available. That is normal in Firefox, Safari, phone browsers and in Chrome with the feature switched off. The draft was built from your brief with rules instead, and the note explains how to turn the model on.
What does the browser need for the AI model?
Chrome or Edge version 138 or newer on a desktop computer, with the feature enabled, and a machine with plenty of free disk space and a capable graphics card. The page reports what is missing when it cannot use the model.
Does my email content get uploaded?
No. The brief you type is processed in your browser, either by the local model or by the page's code. Nothing is sent to ToolXkit, Google or any other server.
Can it reply to an email I received?
This page writes new emails from a brief. Describe what your reply should say, for example 'thank them and confirm Friday at 3 pm', and it will draft that. ToolXkit also has a separate reply tool.
Why do some AI tools say my browser is not supported?
They use the AI model built into some recent browsers, such as newer versions of Chrome on a computer. If your browser does not have it, the page tells you plainly instead of sending your text elsewhere.
Is my text sent to an AI company?
No. When the built-in browser AI is used, your text is processed on your own device. Nothing is passed to ToolXkit or to an outside AI service along the way.
Should I check what AI Email Writer gives me?
Yes, always. AI text can sound confident and still be wrong, miss a detail or change your meaning. Treat it as a first draft, check facts and figures, and make it sound like you.
Is AI Email Writer free, or do I need an API key?
It is free, and there is no API key to enter or account to create. The on-device model belongs to your browser, so there are no per-use charges.
Can I use the result in my work?
Yes. What you create is yours to edit and use. For job applications, college work or published writing, follow the rules of the place you submit to about AI-written content.
