How to Check Grammar With AI Privately
Paste a paragraph, press 'Run it', and get back a corrected version with every change listed beside the words it replaced. You see exactly what was altered instead of being handed a new text and asked to trust it.
Where Chrome's built-in Proofreader model is available on your computer, it does the checking. Where it is not, the page runs its own checks for common misspellings, spacing around punctuation, repeated words, a lower-case 'i', sentences that start without a capital and a missing final full stop. Either way, your writing stays on your device.

Steps to Proofread Your Text
-
1. Paste your writing
Put at least 10 characters into 'Your text'. 'Use the example' loads a sentence with a few deliberate mistakes.
-
2. Press 'Run it'
The corrected text appears under Result. If Chrome needs to fetch its model first, the button shows the download percentage.
-
3. Read 'What changed'
Each correction is listed with the original words and what replaced them, so you can accept or ignore it.
-
4. Copy the clean version
Press Copy or Download. If nothing needed fixing, a green note says the text came back unchanged.
What Is an AI Grammar Checker?
It is a proofreader that corrects spelling, grammar and punctuation. This one uses Chrome's on-device Proofreader API, set up for English, when your browser provides it. In other browsers the fallback checks are simpler rules; they catch mechanical slips well but not deeper grammar such as tense or agreement errors.
Why Use AI Writing Tools on Your Device?
Rewriting an email, summarising notes or drafting a cover letter is quicker with a starting point. These tools use the AI built into supported browsers, so your text is handled on your own device rather than sent away.
“A rough first draft is easier to fix than a blank page.”
- A first draft in moments
- Long text summarised
- No account or API key
- Token costs estimated up front
- Tone changed to suit
- Grammar and spelling flagged
- Text processed on your device
- Plain explanations of code

Why Use This Grammar Checker
Every change listed
Corrections are shown as before and after pairs, not buried in a rewritten paragraph.
Private by default
No server, no account and no browser extension reading everything you type on other sites.
Drafts kept
Run it again after editing; earlier results stay under Previous drafts for comparison.
Works without the model
When the on-device AI is missing, the rule-based checks still run instead of showing an error.

Tips for Cleaner Writing
-
Check a paragraph at a time. Shorter pieces make the change list easier to review.
-
Read corrections to names, product terms and Indian English spellings carefully before accepting them.
-
For model-based checking in Chrome, enable 'Proofreader API for Gemini Nano' in chrome://flags along with the on-device optimisation flag.
-
After fixing mechanics, read the text aloud. Awkward sentences that are technically correct show up when spoken.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
Is this grammar checker free to use?
Yes, completely. There is no word limit tied to a plan, no sign-up and no premium tier, because the checking uses your computer's own processor, not a paid server.
Does it work in Firefox or Safari?
Yes, but without the AI model, which only Chrome and Edge on desktop provide. In other browsers you get the built-in rule checks: common misspellings, spacing, repeated words and capitals.
Can it check languages other than English?
It is set up for English. Text in other languages may come back with few or wrong suggestions, so it is not a good choice for Hindi, Tamil or other languages.
Is my document uploaded for checking?
No. The Proofreader model runs inside Chrome on your machine, and the fallback rules run in the page. Your writing is never sent to ToolXkit or any other company.
Why did it not catch a grammar mistake?
If the note under the result says the page's own code checked it, only mechanical errors are covered. With the on-device model it catches more, but no checker finds everything, so a final human read still matters.
Why do some AI tools say my browser is not supported?
They use the AI model built into some recent browsers, such as newer versions of Chrome on a computer. If your browser does not have it, the page tells you plainly instead of sending your text elsewhere.
Is my text sent to an AI company?
No. When the built-in browser AI is used, your text is processed on your own device. Nothing is passed to ToolXkit or to an outside AI service along the way.
Should I check what AI Grammar Checker gives me?
Yes, always. AI text can sound confident and still be wrong, miss a detail or change your meaning. Treat it as a first draft, check facts and figures, and make it sound like you.
Is AI Grammar Checker free, or do I need an API key?
It is free, and there is no API key to enter or account to create. The on-device model belongs to your browser, so there are no per-use charges.
Can I use the result in my work?
Yes. What you create is yours to edit and use. For job applications, college work or published writing, follow the rules of the place you submit to about AI-written content.
