How to Use the Paragraph Counter Online
Paste an essay, article or cover letter and the paragraph count appears first, with words, sentences, characters and reading time below it. A paragraph is a block of text separated by a blank line, which is how Word and Markdown both see it, so a long wrapped line still counts as one. Handy when a brief asks for a set number of paragraphs.
Counts paragraphs, plus words, sentences and reading time. A paragraph is a block separated by blank lines, so a single wrapped line does not start a new one — which matches how word processors and Markdown both behave.

Tips and Good to Know
-
Text pasted with a single line break between paragraphs and no blank line will count as one paragraph. Add the blank lines first, or the number will be low.
-
It counts; it does not judge. For a score on how hard the text is to read, use the Readability Checker.
-
Paragraph counts from a PDF copy can be off because PDFs break every visual line. Use the remove-line-breaks tool first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about this tool.
What counts as a paragraph?
A block of text separated by one or more blank lines. Single line breaks inside a block — the kind a wrapped sentence produces — do not start a new paragraph, which matches how word processors and Markdown both behave. Trailing blank lines at the end are ignored.
Why does my word count differ from Microsoft Word?
Hyphenated and slash-joined terms are the usual cause. Word counts "state-of-the-art" as one word; some counters see four. Numbers, times and words carrying trailing punctuation are also treated differently between tools. Expect small differences on the same text — neither figure is wrong, they are counting slightly different things.
How is reading time worked out?
At 200–250 words per minute, the range most often measured for adult silent reading of general prose. It is an estimate rather than a measurement: dense technical writing runs slower and dialogue faster, so treat it as a rough guide for a blog post rather than a promise.
Is my text sent anywhere when I use Paragraph Counter?
No. The text you paste is handled in your browser and never leaves the page. That makes it safe for drafts, customer lists and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.
Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?
The site sets none. Long documents are handled by your own device, so a whole book may be slow on an older phone. Articles, essays and long lists are no trouble.
Can I use Paragraph Counter without making an account?
Yes. There is no login, no email to hand over and no daily limit. Open the page, paste or type, and copy or download the result when it is ready.
Do the QR codes made here expire?
No. The information is stored directly in the pattern, with no redirect through our servers, so the code keeps working for as long as the link or text inside it stays valid.
