  1. Soft hyphens are not touched. If a word still breaks oddly in your editor, look for U+00AD by hand.

  2. Accents stay: café remains café. For plain letters use the remove-accents tool on the site.

  3. Dashes become a plain hyphen, so a typeset document will lose its em dashes. Clean a copy, not the manuscript.

What are smart quotes and why do they break things?

Word processors silently replace straight quotes with typographic ones — " becomes “ or ” depending on position. They look better in prose and are a syntax error in code, break string matching in CSV, and turn into mojibake when a system expects ASCII. This replaces them with the straight versions.

My text looks fine but a system rejects it.

Almost always a character you cannot see: a non-breaking space that looks like a space, a soft hyphen, a byte-order mark at the start of the file, or a zero-width joiner. All of them survive copy-paste invisibly, and all of them are stripped here.

Is my text sent anywhere when I use Text Cleaner?

No. The text you paste is handled in your browser and never leaves the page. That makes it safe for drafts, customer lists and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.

Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?

The site sets none. Long documents are handled by your own device, so a whole book may be slow on an older phone. Articles, essays and long lists are no trouble.

Why does my word count differ from Microsoft Word?

Programs treat hyphenated words, numbers and symbols a little differently. The gap is usually a few words in a long piece. If a teacher or portal sets a limit, stay a little under it to be safe.

No. The information is stored directly in the pattern, with no redirect through our servers, so the code keeps working for as long as the link or text inside it stays valid.
