How to Use the QR Code Reader Online

QR Code Reader: before and after TEXT A YOUR INPUT QR CODE READER DONE A RESULT

Drop in a photo or screenshot that has a QR code in it, paste one from the clipboard, or press Use camera and hold the code up to it. The contents appear as text with a copy button. If it is a link, the page shows the full address and warns you to check it before opening. Decoding happens in your browser — with its built-in detector where it has one, otherwise with a small QR decoder that ships with the page — so the image is never uploaded.

Reads a code from a photo, a pasted screenshot or your camera, on your own device and in any current browser. Worth using before acting on any code you did not generate — a printed code can be covered with a sticker pointing somewhere else, and there is no way to tell by looking at the pattern.

Tips and Good to Know

  1. QR codes read in every browser. Ordinary barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128) need the detector built into Chrome and Edge; Firefox and Safari do not have one, so on those only QR codes are read.

  2. A blurry, tiny or angled code will come back as not found. Take a closer, straighter photo and try again.

  3. The camera needs your permission and an https page. If it is refused or there is no camera, upload a photo or paste a screenshot instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about this tool.

Do I need to install anything to use the QR Code Reader?

No. QR Code Reader runs entirely in your browser — there is nothing to download, no extension and no desktop program. It works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone.

Is it safe to use the QR Code Reader online?

Safer than the usual alternative, yes. Most online tools upload your file to a server you know nothing about, where it sits until someone deletes it. Here the file never leaves your device — the processing happens in the page itself, so there is no server copy to leak, retain or sell.

Is my text sent anywhere when I use QR Code Reader?

No. The text you paste is handled in your browser and never leaves the page. That makes it safe for drafts, customer lists and anything else you would rather keep to yourself.

Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?

The site sets none. Long documents are handled by your own device, so a whole book may be slow on an older phone. Articles, essays and long lists are no trouble.

Can I use QR Code Reader without making an account?

Yes. There is no login, no email to hand over and no daily limit. Open the page, paste or type, and copy or download the result when it is ready.

Why does my word count differ from Microsoft Word?

Programs treat hyphenated words, numbers and symbols a little differently. The gap is usually a few words in a long piece. If a teacher or portal sets a limit, stay a little under it to be safe.

Do the QR codes made here expire?

No. The information is stored directly in the pattern, with no redirect through our servers, so the code keeps working for as long as the link or text inside it stays valid.
