What is inside
- An array of eight objects with mixed value types
- Objects nested three levels deep
- An array of arrays, for testing matrix handling
- An explicit null, which is not the same as a missing key
- Unicode across Latin, Japanese and Arabic, plus a tick mark
- A YAML file holding the same records, for testing conversion both ways

About JSON files
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) describes data as objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null, and nothing else. It has no date type, no comments and no trailing commas. Each of those gaps causes errors every day.
The rules are stricter than most people remember. Keys must be double-quoted strings; single quotes are not allowed anywhere; a comma after the last item of an object or array is invalid even though most languages permit it. The invalid sample here breaks exactly those rules, one per line.
JSON has no date type, so by convention dates travel as strings. Most use ISO 8601, as this sample does. That means a date in JSON is only as reliable as the agreement between whoever wrote it and whoever reads it.

Questions
What is wrong with the invalid sample?
Four things, one per line: a // comment, which JSON has no concept of; single-quoted strings, which are never valid; an unquoted key; and a trailing comma before a closing bracket. Any validator worth using should point at all four.
Is JSON the same as a JavaScript object?
No, and the difference bites. JavaScript allows unquoted keys, single quotes, trailing commas, comments and functions. JSON allows none of them. Valid JSON is almost always valid JavaScript; the reverse is often false.
How do I check my own JSON is valid?
Paste it into the JSON Validator on this site. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, and it reports the line and column of the first problem rather than just refusing.

For developers: exact bytes and SHA-256
Sizes are decimal (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). The hosted files never change between builds, so these checksums stay valid.
