What is inside
- A header row: id, name, email, role, department, city, started, salary, active
- 108 data rows in the 10 KB file, 10,472 in the 1 MB file, 252,888 in the 25 MB file
- Exactly one tab between cells, and no quotes anywhere
- Dates as YYYY-MM-DD, salaries as whole numbers, and active as true or false
- UTF-8 text with accented names and LF line endings, no byte order mark
- Each file ends on a whole row, a few bytes under its target size

About TSV files
TSV stands for tab-separated values. Each line is one row, and a tab character marks the end of each cell. It is the same idea as CSV with a different separator.
TSV is what you get when you copy cells from Excel or Google Sheets and paste them into a text editor. Databases, bioinformatics tools and many data exports use it too, because tabs rarely appear inside ordinary text, so values seldom need quoting.
The catch is that a tab is invisible. An editor that turns tabs into spaces, or a value that holds a tab of its own, shifts every column after it without any warning. If your columns come out one place off, look for a stray or missing tab first.

Questions
Is the TSV the same data as the CSV samples?
Yes. Both are built from the same employee records, and the 1 MB and 25 MB files even hold the same number of rows. Only the separator differs.
Why is the 1 MB TSV 999,970 bytes?
TSV has no comment line or other safe filler, so the file ends on the last complete row that fits. That leaves it a few bytes under 1,000,000.
Will Excel open a .tsv file?
Yes, though Excel may guess the types of some columns, such as the dates, based on your regional settings. That guess comes from Excel, not from the file.

For developers: exact bytes and SHA-256
Sizes are decimal (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). The hosted files never change between builds, so these checksums stay valid.
